Why is there a battle? What was wrong with the Articles of Confederation? After the constitutional convention, two groups emerged… Those favoring and those opposing ratification. Federalists and Anti-Federalists

Who are Federalists? Those who supported the constitution and a strong national gov’t because it would: Provide protection for all states & individual. Maintain order Regulate trade Guarantee rights of citizens Ensure national debts paid Ensure US money had stable value here & abroad Separation of powers would prevent abuse

Who are Anti-Federalists?
Those who opposed constitution & strong Nat’l gov’t Feared for individual liberties Feared “necessary and proper” clause Feared it would swallow state governments Feared it gave too much power to the executive branch States lacked power to print money Had no bill of rights

The Constitution Is Ratified!
Gradually, Federalists gained support. However many citizens were upset that the Constitution did not contain a list of the rights of the people. Many states would not ratify the Constitution until a Bill of Rights was added. The Constitution was eventually passed into effect after the Bill of Rights is added and on March 4, 1789, the government began operations.

The New Government New York City was chosen as the country's temporary capital. On April 30, 1789, George Washington was sworn in as the first president of the United States. CRITICAL THINKING (Fed v. Anti-fed)
I believe every American should have some form healthcare. Congress has the authority to compel us to buy something. Military force should ONLY be used when it is approved by Congress. It is unconstitutional for congress to run up the national debt to an amount greater than the size of GDP.
