Our Agenda Update Program Requirements Assessment Course Evaluations
CE Sponsor Webinar Our Agenda 11/12/2018 Update Program Requirements Assessment Course Evaluations Program Submission Process As promised we wanted to ensure you had a current update on where we stand with Ethics CE for During this session, we will provide that update, review the program requirements for online delivery, the final assessment, course evaluation and program submission process.
4
Update CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018
Let’s start with an updated on where we are relative to the new program content and deployment.
5
Deployment & Access CFP BOD ratifies new Standards
CE Sponsor Webinar Deployment & Access 11/12/2018 CFP BOD ratifies new Standards Sponsor submits program request CFP Board formally announces adoption Link to content available thru Portal We know you are all anxious to have a date for deployment. We are too… And as a result, we’re positioning ourselves to act quickly once we have the green light to move forward. The full course package is currently out for third party review. Once those reviews are complete, we will make the recommended adjustments and changes to finalize the material. The conclusion of this activity coincides with the Board of Directors meeting later this month. If the Board ratifies the standards at the March meeting, the next step will be a formal announcement and press release from CFP Board. Unless there are major changes to the current version of the proposed standards, we should be in a position to make the new course content available to those of you who have completed the program request process within a day of that formal announcement. Ethics CE sponsors will access course related documents through a link in their CE Sponsor Portal. This link will lead to a private webpage with instructions and access to the course material. Once the course materials become available, we will reset the expiration date for current online courses 45 days out. If the Standards are not ratified at the March meeting, we will extend the deadline date for your current ethics courses accordingly. Either way, we will send you all an update with the news. Bottom line…consider submitting your program request before the end of the month. You want to be in a position to begin course development once the material becomes available.

Course Materials Ethics CE Presentation Ethics CE Activities Guide
CE Sponsor Webinar Course Materials 11/12/2018 Ethics CE Presentation Ethics CE Activities Guide Course Evaluation Guide The course materials are organized in three documents: the Ethics CE presentation, Activities Guide and Course Evaluation Guide.
7
Ethics CE Presentation
CE Sponsor Webinar Ethics CE Presentation 11/12/2018 Inclusive of all required material Comprehensive presentation notes Placeholders for activities Flexibility to insert additional content The Ethics presentation includes approximately 65 minutes of core content. This content is organized by the five learning objective in a generic PowerPoint presentation. Each of the 50 core content slides include detailed presentation notes. The learning objective are tied directly to the proposed new Standards. They were deliberatively articulated and listed in what our SMEs consider a progressive order. You will however, have flexibility in content order, screen design and use of the provided narrative. You also have the flexibility to insert supplemental information. As long as this content ties specifically to one of the five learning objectives, it does not need to be pre-approved.

Activities Guide POLLING QUESTIONS POP-UP QUIZ VIGNETTES CASE STUDIES
CE Sponsor Webinar Activities Guide 11/12/2018 POLLING QUESTIONS POP-UP QUIZ VIGNETTES CASE STUDIES We’ve discussed the desire for online courses to be highly interactive. The Activities guide includes activities that can be easily adopted for online use. Organized by learning objective, this guide includes 19 polling questions, a short five-question quiz, eight vignettes, and three case studies. Use the activities provided or make up your own. You have full flexibility in this area. We do however expect, at minimum, a short activity after the material for each learning objective has been presented.
9
Program requirements CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018
We wanted to take a few minutes to do a quick review of the requirements for an online, self-study program. Just as a reminder, this definition of self-study is applied to Ethics CE only.
10
Accepted Delivery Models
CE Sponsor Webinar Accepted Delivery Models 11/12/2018 Self-Study is defined as E-Learning; real-time interaction with the content Delivered online through a system that will meet the required functionality Recognizes a pre-determined deadline for completion (as per CE Sponsors policy) Delivery methods no longer accepted: Previously recorded content delivery Unmonitored, off-line independent study As we’ve discussed previously, self-study, for Ethics CE, is defined as an e-learning environment where there is real-time interaction with the content. We’ve had conversations with several CE Sponsors who do not have a learning management system about our definition of online delivery. While we remain steadfast in our definition, we are open to creative methods of delivery. If you have any question as to whether or not your plan meets our requirements, please give us a call so we can talk this through before you expend time and resources into a course that may not meet the requirements. Just as a reminder, methods of delivery that will no longer be accepted include listening to pre-recorded content delivery with no monitoring or required activity or unmonitored independent study. To ensure our delivery and interactive activity requirements are met, each online course will be audited but a CE staff member or CFP® volunteer within 6-8 weeks of the course going live. Any program that does not meet the requirements will immediately have the course status change to Inactive until the necessary changes and adjustments are made.
11
Self-Study (Online) Course Delivery
CE Sponsor Webinar Self-Study (Online) Course Delivery 11/12/2018 Required progression through course material and successful completion of activities Activities imbedded after each module; may include but are not limited to: Pop Up Quizzes Vignettes/Case Studies Access to the final assessment only after the course has been completed Online courses will require a forced progression thru the content, including successful completion of the activities, before access is given to the final assessment.
12
View Program Requirements
CE Sponsor Webinar View Program Requirements 11/12/2018 For more details on the course requirements, we urge you to review all of the Ethics CE related updates on our website.
13
assessment CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018
Once your self-study program request has been accepted, the sponsors Main Point of Contact will be ed the Online Course Assessment document which contains the Assessment requirements, summary of learning objectives and stated competencies, the assessment question summary, and the question bank which includes explanations for the correct response.
14
Assessment Question Summary
CE Sponsor Webinar Assessment Question Summary 11/12/2018 Questions will be randomized for each assessment and include a specific number of questions to test for each learning objective Our SMEs have created 49 questions for the question bank. Twenty questions, not forty, will be required for the final assessment. Each learning objective has been weighted and a minimum number of questions identified for each assessment. For example, to test learning objective 1, a final assessment is required to have a minimum of any 4 of the 11 questions provided; learning objective 2 requires any 6 of the 9 questions provided etc.
15
Passing Score & Retakes
CE Sponsor Webinar Passing Score & Retakes 11/12/2018 The assessment will include 20 (not 40) questions A score of 70% (not 80%) is considered passing After three (3) consecutive unsuccessful attempts, the student will be required to retake the course and/or there will be a pre-determined waiting period Just as a reminder, the rules for the final assessment have changed to fall inline with our self-study standard: 10 questions per hour of CE and a passing score of 70%. We know many of you have a policy for those who, upon consecutive tries, are unsuccessful in passing. If you don’t currently have such a policy we will request you create one for Ethics CE – that policy can include a pre-determined waiting period or a required retake of the course. We do anticipate with the required forced progression, few CFP® professionals will fall in this category.
16
CE Sponsor Webinar Upon Passing 11/12/2018 When the assessment has been successfully completed, a summary of the correct assessment response for each question will be viewable: Upon passing, we do request an explanation for the correct response be visible to participants. As in the example here, each question provided in the Course Assessment document will include the rationale for the correct response.
17
CE Sponsor Webinar Adding Questions 11/12/2018 Only questions from the question bank will be used; supplemental questions can be added under these terms: They are submitted with CFP Board, in advance, for verification; They tie specifically to a learning objective and competency; The CE Sponsor understands that CFP Board will add submitted and verified questions to the question bank. CFP Board will update and share the question bank with self-study (online) sponsors on a periodic basis. In addition to potentially adding supplemental content or creating your own activities, you do have the flexibility to build assessment questions. And we encourage you to do so. We’d like to increase the size of our question bank. Unlike supplemental content which can be added without pre-approval, any new assessment questions must be pre-approved and meet the following criteria: the question ties directly to a learning objective and competency; the CE Sponsor understands we will add verified and approved questions to the question bank.
18
Course evaluation CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018
Before the course is considered complete and access is given to the Certificate of Completion, a course evaluation must be completed.
19
Course Evaluation Guide
CE Sponsor Webinar Course Evaluation Guide 11/12/2018 Why an insistence on course evaluations? Requesting participant feedback demonstrates your commitment to continually seek to refine and improve the quality of your messaging and program delivery to enhance student learning. Ethics CE is the only requirement universal for every CFP® professional. So why are we insisting on a course evaluation? We want to demonstrate our commitment to quality delivery and continual improvement to enhance student learning. Their feedback is essential for us to be successful in this endeavor.
20
Core Questions in the Evaluation
CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018 Core Questions in the Evaluation In a manner similar to what we’ve done for Live Program delivery, we are requesting sponsors to adopt some core questions related to their experience with the Ethics content. We consider this feedback necessary to objectively measure learning and satisfaction with the course delivery.
21
Methods of Delivery Options Expectation of 95% return rate
CE Sponsor Webinar Methods of Delivery 11/12/2018 Options Last questions (ungraded) in the Assessment Link after passing to evaluation Expectation of 95% return rate Sharing Results CE Sponsor to CFP Board CFP Board to CE Sponsor Results measurable on a 5.0 scale Requiring Changes We will leave the way in which you administer the survey up to you. We do expect a % rate of return. We will be asking for a summary of these evaluations, when requested – first on a monthly basis and then on a quarterly basis. Initially, these requests will be made via and include the number of attendance completions reported for a specific period of time. We will request you send us a PFD file with a summary and the individual responses within 14 working days of this request. How will CFP Board measure success? We ask that your evaluations be measurable on a 5.0 scale. A program will be considered successful if it achieves an overall rating of 3.5 or higher. Any program receiving an overall rating of 3.0 or less may require re-evaluation. CFP Board and the CE Sponsor will use these evaluation ratings as a tool to ensure course delivery meets the highest possible standard. CFP Board reserves the right to require course changes based on the results of the course audit and/or the course evaluations. CFP Board will share audit results with you in a timely manner.
22
Certificates of Completion & Attendance
CE Sponsor Webinar Certificates of Completion & Attendance 11/12/2018 Certificate of Completion will include the CFP Board Program ID; should be tied to completion of the course evaluation Attendance reporting will be completed within 14 days of course completion Once the course evaluation is completed, the certificant should have access to the certificate of completion which, as is current practice, will include the program ID along with the completion date and assessment score. You will complete attendance reporting within 14 days of the a course completion.
23
Your Feedback CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018
We talked about the importance of soliciting feedback from your participants; we feel your feedback is equally important. This is a new process for both of us and we want to ensure you have everything you need to build a solid course. While we have not defined plans as to the best way to solicit your feedback, don’t be surprised if you have an invitation to set up a short call or a request to participate in a focus group in early summer. Either way, we will touch base with each of you at some point a few months after the material becomes available.
24
Program submission process
CE Sponsor Webinar 11/12/2018 Program submission process As we mentioned at the beginning of this presentation, we want to ensure you’re ready to access the course content as soon as its available.
