2 Design Concepts address technological challenges and solve problems effectively, range of concepts, elements and principles of design Footer Text 11/12/2018

5 Problem-Solving Methods and Approaches systematic steps – for example:
identifying the problem researching considering possible solutions selecting the best solution testing and evaluating reviewing, reflecting, re-design, repeat steps as necessary to improve the solution. Footer Text 11/12/2018

6 Parts Substitution most basic of all the problem-solving methods,
simply requires that parts be substituted until the problem is solved. not the most scientific method of problem solving…..there may be no other alternative if tests do not indicate what could be causing the problem. Footer Text 11/12/2018

7 Reverse Engineering the process of discovering the technological principles of a device, object, or system through analysis of its structure, function, and operation involves disassembling something and analyzing its components and workings in detail Supports the creation of a new device or program that does the same thing, without using or simply duplicating (without understanding) the original. 8 Divide and Conquer is the technique of breaking down a problem into sub-problems, then breaking the sub-problems down even further until each of them is simple enough to be solved. divide and conquer may be applied when a problem is so large that its solution cannot be visualized without breaking it down into smaller components. 9 Trial and Error involves trying different approaches until a solution is found. often used as a last resort when other methods have been exhausted. Footer Text 11/12/2018

10 Design Process open-ended problem-solving processes
involves the full planning and development of products to meet identified needs involves a sequence of steps: clearly define the problem/challenge conduct research determine design criteria and constraints generate ideas…….brainstorming and sketching. choose the best solution build a prototype or model test and evaluate repeat steps as necessary reflect and report on the process Footer Text 11/12/2018
