Project Aim Statement Revise monthly University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) data extract process to a streamlined and automated format that significantly reduces required staff effort, process time and increases quality of extracted information. Confidential: For Quality Improvement Purposes Only

Measurement Goal & Target
The original quarterly UHC data extract process took on average 12.5 days to complete. The new process was developed that now takes on average 45 minutes. (40 minutes to gather the data and approximately 5 minutes to generate the file which is then uploaded directly to UHC) Error checking and data validation routines are now performed the during the extract process. Previously, error checking and data validations were performed as a post-extract step. Confidential: For Quality Improvement Purposes Only

Solutions Implemented
Create a series of new database procedures, using the Epic Clarity database, which aggregates all inpatient data for a given time frame. Data are filtered to UHC requirements and standards. Extracted data error checked and validated. Final extracted dataset transformed to a file format that can be uploaded to UHC. Confidential: For Quality Improvement Purposes Only

Analysis We have submitted 6 months of data utilizing the new process. Turnaround time for data extraction to file submission has improved by hours over previous submission process. (Previously, the process took approximately 100 hours from start to finish, new process now takes approximately 45 minutes. Confidential: For Quality Improvement Purposes Only
