1
Growth, Development and Reproduction Vocabulary
2
Asexual reproduction Reproduction involving only one parent organism; also called non-sexual reproduction
3
Chromosome A structure located in the nucleus of a cell, made of DNA, that contains the genetic information needed to carry out cell functions and make new cells.
4
Clone An organism or cell, or group of organisms or cells, produced asexually from one ancestor or stock, to which they are genetically identical.
5
Egg Female sex cell; also an object that contains an animal developing from a fertilized sex cell
6
Environmental Factors
An identifiable element in the physical, cultural, demographic, economic, political, regulatory, or technological environment that affects the survival, operations, and growth of an organization.
7
DNA Deoxyribonucleic acid; the material found in a cell's nucleus, that determines the genetic traits of the organism
8
Gene Segment of DNA, found on a chromosome, that determines the inheritance of a particular trait
9
Genetic Factors Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in living organisms. Some genetic factors that can occur is when DNA changes, altering the genetic instructions. This may result in a genetic disorder or a mutation in the gene can be caused by exposure to specific chemicals or radiation.
10
Heredity Passing of traits from one generation to another
11
Meiosis Cell division that produces sex cells (eggs or sperm), which have only half the chromosomes of the parent cell
12
Mitosis During cell division, the process in which the material from the cell nucleus divides
13
Regeneration Renewal or restoration of a body, bodily part, or biological system (such as a forest) after injury or as a normal process. An act or the process of regenerating.
14
Sex Cell Parents pass on their genes to their offspring in their sex cells. Female sex cells are called egg cells, or ova. Male sex cells are called sperm.
15
Sexual Reproduction Process in which two parents contribute genes to form a new individual/organism
16
Sperm Male sex cell, produced in the testes
