1 U-Shower assistive shower seat
2.009 Orange Team December 11, 2006 Alisha: Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Alisha Schor and this is my teammate Juan Herrera, representing the orange team. Tonight we will introduce the U-Shower, a wall-mounted, foldable shower seat with integrated shower heads, designed to make showering safer, more effective, and more independent for those who take seated showers. (reiterate this point) U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

2 The Issue Seated showers are a difficult process for people with physical disabilities After discussions with occupational therapists and current shower chair users, we realized that many people need to take seated showers but have trouble with current products. The typical method of showering for these people is to place a shower chair in a bathtub or shower stall and use a handheld shower head. However, for people with limited mobility and reach, this method is difficult, ineffective, or both. Our solution is the U-Shower, which features an overhead shower to reach the head and back, a perineal wash that sprays underneath the user, as well as a traditional handheld device. Brian and Edgar will now show you how the U-Shower is installed and used. U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

3 Installation Adjustable bar mounts to studs
Caretaker hooks seat onto bar Quick connect to water supply Unfold seat The only installation that the U-Shower requires is the wall-mounted railing, shown already in place in the bathtub. Brackets mount to the wall studs and the railing is fixed onto the brackets. Upon first use, the chair is assembled to fit the orientation of your bathtub. Once these two steps have been performed, the seat is ready to mount, simply by hanging it in the desired location on the bar, which Brian will show now. [Pause while Brian hangs chair] A quick connect fitting, included with the product, allows the chair’s water inlet to be connected to the existing faucet. [Pause while Brian connects] The chair is then unfolded and ready for use. [Brian unfolds, Edgar walks in] U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

4 Use - Getting ready Turn on water supply Position overhead shower
Before the user gets into the shower, water is turned on using the existing faucet. Once the water is ready, the Edgar gets into the shower and the overhead can then be positioned by a caretaker [Edgar is getting in]. Now the user can now prepare to shower alone. [Brian walks off to the side, but not off stage] U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

5 Use - Showering Waist level controls Pre-adjusted overhead
Perineal wash Handheld Once the user is in the shower, they can use the waist-level controls to turn on the water supply to each of the three outlets individually. The overhead shower has the same comfortable flow as a standard shower head, [pause, Edgar turns on overhead]. The perineal wash is gentle yet supplies ample water [Pause, Edgar turns on butt wash]. Lastly, the handheld shower head is a standard attachment that can be replaced with a more personalized unit, if desired. [Pause while Edgar uses handheld]. Multiple outlets can run simultaneously, without compromising flow and comfort. [Edgar has overhead and handheld on. After a moment, Edgar turns everything off and gets out and dries off] [Get out of shower] U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

6 Use – Post shower Unit folds against wall Rust free Easy-to-clean seat
One key element of the U-Shower is its compactness when not in use. If a roommate or guest desires to take a standing shower, the chair can simply be folded up against the wall, where it extends only XX inches toward the tub. [Brian comes back and folds up chair.] It can also be slid back along the railing for even more shower space. [Brian slides chair back] The U-Shower also features rust-free surfaces and an easy to clean seat. U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

7 Testimonials “I think this seat would be great for anyone who may be having difficulty showering…I haven’t seen anything like it on the market. I would recommend this seat to anyone who might have difficulty.” -Sophia Ma, OT, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Response to the U-Shower has been positive, from both potential customers and occupational therapists. 8 Product Features Folding wall installation
As you can see, our product is straightforward to use with little outside assistance. I will now briefly review some of the key features that make the U-Shower a safe and effective showering aid. First, the combination of wall mounted design and folding seat, with back, add stability over traditional shower chairs… (adaptability, doesn’t require much strength, dexterity, etc) U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

9 Product Features Reversible
… Second, the reversible design allows customers to choose whatever orientation best fits their needs or preferences. … U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

10 Product Features Additional shower heads Dual nozzles underneath
… Lastly, the integrated shower heads improve access to water, particularly the overhead shower and perineal washing system. No other shower chairs today have features that suit such a wide range of needs. Juan will now discuss how these features make the U-shower a viable product and present our business model. 11 Consumer Need As you can see in this slide there is a substantial number of users that can benefit from the U-shower. It reduces constraints associated with limited mobility and loss of limbs so it can accommodate a variety of users. The U-shower will adjust to your needs, since it provides water in the perinneal region, overhead and handheld. It is also a product that can assist care-takers as well as independent users. 12 Competitors Here you can see existing products for higher end shower assisting devices. You can see the large gap in the market that currently exists between the Folding Shower seat, retailing at $300 and the Bathtub with Door, retailing at $4200. You can appreciate that our device does not require major remodeling, has the most versatile features and is moderately priced. U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

13 Business Model Cost of Manufactured Goods
$630 Suggested Retail (2.5x markup) $1575 Net Profit $198 per unit IRR: 34% Now that you have seen the features of our product and the competing market. I would like to show your our sound financials. U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team

14 Sales Strategy OTs, Home Care Private Users Hotels
High initial startup costs, begin production tweaking – target product to rehab centers, occupational therapists Second year fine expenses to fine tune manufacturing line and cement relationships with hotels, private users. Third year we will like to reach users who would use this as a luxury item rather than rehab. U-Shower 2.009 Orange Team
