PARKS: Valuing and conserving nature
WCPA Oceania will: Secure a decade long policy commitment to: Complete the CAR Australian National Reserve System Secure biodiversity + resilience through whole of land/seascape connectivity Promote diverse and inclusive governance Promote Indigenous land and sea knowledge + management Build a WCPA Oceania task group within WCPA marine to champion MPAs of varied governance across Oceania. Through information exchange build the skills of land and sea managers.

PEOPLE: Equitable governance/Inspiring a new generation
WCPA Oceania will: Support campaign for increased secure funding for Indigenous land/sea management rangers Support a sustainable future for Northern Australia which values and conserves nature Promote protection and use of local and Indigenous Pacific knowledge + modern science to address major biodiversity loss, climate change, and human health and livelihoods

PEOPLE: Equitable governance/Inspiring a new generation
WCPA Oceania will: Work with Nature for All SG, agencies and NGOs to build the Oceania effort to promote the Nature for All goals, and specifically the health/nature connection for mental health and well being. Continue to encourage and support promising young people who have shown their long term commitment to careers in conservation.

PLANET: Nature-based Solutions
WCPA has joined with multiple key Oceania partners, including the environment departments of Australia and New Zealand, to take forward at WCC the concept of a knowledge and capacity sharing platform across the Oceania region. WCPA will continue its advocacy for Marine Protected Areas across Oceania as an essential livelihood and human rights issue

Proposed activities for delivering the IUCN Programme in the region 2017-2020
Activity Partners Resources Needs July Symp: Maintaining Australia’s natural wealth will address many of the PoS goals. WCPA Oceania, National Committee of IUCN (ACIUCN) Fenner School, Australian National University, Dept. of Environment David Thomas Foundation + WCPA VC is contributing $ and is assisting ACIUCN raise funding for the symposium and policy publication The key need is adequate distribution of the policy document and adequate follow up advocacy WCC Hawaii will be a key partner in take forward the concept of a knowledge and capacity sharing platform across the Oceania region. All WCPA members, Other Commission members, IUCN ORO, SPREP, PIRT, ACIUCN, NZIUCN, DOC NZ, Dept. of Environment Aust. Each partner will bring their own resources to WCC. Structures for interchange etab. by Pacific Island Protected Areas Portal. Aid or philanthropic funds will be needed long term to establish the exchange and at least one dedicated SPREP/ORO staff member.

Activity Partners Resources Needs Liaison among many parties is in its early stages to take forward the Health/Nature connection across Oceania. Parks Victoria, South Australia, DOC and Health NZ Environment and Health South Australia There is a good number of WCPA Oceania members with this area as a key concern there is scope for an Oceania subgroup There is a need for on going leadership of this area with strong interaction with other global partners too ensure health/nature is seen as an international strategic issues Marine issues are central to all Oceania countries Create a sub group for policy advocacy WCPA membership and key NGOs eg AMCS, Pew Oceania subgroup will include a richness of expertise Leadership of several individuals in each 3 components of Oceania
