I. GATHER FACTS AND ASSUMPTIONS: (The UMT gathers information concerning the assigned mission and divide this information into two categories: Facts and Assumptions FACTS ON: -Special religious needs of Soldiers (refer to Religious Preference Profile (RPP) & ad hoc query) -Location/Movement of UMT by phase -Enemy and friendly dispositions -Available troops/ -Unit strengths -Material readiness/-Cmd’s intent -Logistical & Communication support *ASSUMPTIONS ON: -Special religious needs of Soldiers (refer to Religious Preference Profile (RPP) & ad hoc query) -Location/Movement of UMT by phase -Enemy and friendly dispositions -Available troops/ -Unit strengths -Material readiness/-Cmd’s intent -Logistical & Communication support *NOTE: When facts essential to planning RS are not available, the UMT must make assumptions. In the absence of facts, assumptions are used to fill gaps Mission Implied and specified tasks from the higher headquarters. For example area RS may be implied but not specified by higher headquarters. Example: protection of religious shrines, or sacred sites in AO. Enemy How the enemy may threaten the religious support mission. How religion plays a part in the enemy’s capacity or inclination to fight Terrain and Weather Weather extremes, assessment of terrain, boundaries of AOR Troops Operational OPTEMPO of Soldiers determines their availability for religious support. UMT adjusts its schedule to match Soldier’s schedules. Assess and advice commander on troop morale, spiritual health. Time Available Assessment of time required for planning. Consider traveling time. Civil Considerations -Understand operational religious environment religious implications for COA -anticipate negative impacts on local religious climate METT-TC

II. Once the Cmd decides on a COA, preparation for rehearsals begin. Approved COAs are the basis for the Religious Support Plan. Staff Section: Chaplain Prepared By: XXXXX DTG: ######ABC## Facts: Assumptions: 15 Feb – Liberation Day (often celebrated with gunfire) 25 Feb – Ash Weds (Christian and Catholic holiday) Require Security Escort Primarily Located at FOB Dallas Will circulate the AOR with SCO and CSM Will have tent for chapel services and counseling Will encounter at least two significantly different forms of Islam (Taliban = extremist, Sunni of Hanafi School, heavily influenced by Sufism = mystical and tolerant) Important to engage the local Mullahs Some Mullahs have been known to blow off Commanders preferring to speak with Chaplain as fellow religious leader Tasks: S I Will provide weekly worship services, religious support, and counseling to all troops attached to CAV, including Troops located at COPS Will perform Protestant Services at FOB Dallas every Sunday at 0800 and 1800 Will provide for Catholic Service every Tuesday at FOB Dallas at 1700 Will provide for LDS Service every Monday at 2000 Provide Casualty ministry as needed X X X X X Facts are statements of known data concerning the situation. Holidays, special religious needs of Soldiers, material and material readiness are common facts to be included in the Religious Support Estimate (RSE). Assumptions are suppositions about the current or future situation, assumed to be true, though without positive proof. The UMT must work to turn assumptions into facts or to discard them if invalid. Tasks are specified actions the UMT must plan and execute. Specified tasks are tasks specifically assigned to a unit by its higher headquarters. Implied tasks are tasks that must be performed to accomplish a specified task or the mission, but are not stated in the higher headquarters order. Constraints are restrictions placed on the command by a higher command. Limitations have to do with the capabilities of the UMT and/or equipment.
