3 What Did ofsted say School does well at (1)?
1. Accurate understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the school. 2. Strong ethos of Christian Values and good links with the church 3. Successful improvement of teaching of phonics and writing, and have already started to improve teaching of maths and reading. Younger pupils writing has improved significantly 4. Key Stage 1 (year 2) test outcomes are secure.

5. Safeguarding practices and monitoring are embedded in school systems – children are safe. 6. Sports and music provision are good. 7. Reception children settle quickly and are making good progress. Accurate assessment of children’s skills in early years. 8. Good use of pupil premium funding. 9. Good SEND provision.

5 What Did ofsted say School needs to improve (1)?
ACTION POINT 1: Improve teaching so that pupils make consistently good progress across all year groups, especially in reading and mathematics by: 1a) Reducing gaps in some pupils’ understanding of mathematical concepts, especially in Years 3, 4 and 5 1b) Developing some pupils’ skills in understanding more complex texts, especially in key stage 2 1c) Ensuring that the work of teaching assistants is consistently planned well so they support pupils more effectively in all classes 1d) Developing the planning of lessons to make work more interesting for some pupils, especially boys, who become disengaged.

6 What Did ofsted say School needs to improve (2)?
ACTION POINT 2: Improve leadership and management so that the school’s expectations are more consistently used and applied, by: 2a) Ensuring that subject leaders check that additional training and resources provided for staff are leading to more pupils making good progress, especially in key stage 2 2b) Improving the assessment of foundation subjects, such as history, geography, languages and computing 2c) Ensuring that the school’s behaviour management systems are used effectively in all classes.

ACTION POINT 3: An external review of governance should be undertaken in order to assess how this aspect of leadership and management may be improved.

8 ACTION POINT 1 Improve teaching so that pupils make consistently good progress across all year groups, especially in reading and mathematics 1a) -Maths frame tests implemented to help teachers assess how children have done with short maths topics. – provides information for follow up by teachers or with additional adults. - NFER reading and maths tests purchased for years 3, 4 and 5. Scale scores allow tracking over time more carefully.

9 ACTION POINT 1 Improve teaching so that pupils make consistently good progress across all year groups, especially in reading and mathematics 1b) - Areas of weakness from 2017 KS2 tests identified (shared with staff at the September 2017 INSET). Maths: elements in the curriculum in years 3, 4 and 5 were identified. -Reading: no strong links with any specific curriculum year. Therefore, care needs to be taken with the target in the Ofsted report. - Attitude to learning scale used to quantify attitude of all children in reading, writing and maths to evaluate impact of future curriculum changes - Purchased and used new reading resources for comprehension (Summer 2017)

10 Improve teaching so that pupils make consistently good progress across all year groups, especially in reading and mathematics 1c) TA timetable re-allocated (Nov 2017). Now includes 30 mins PPA time for class teachers and TA to plan together. 1d) Subject leaders participated in a consultation on their job descriptions which have now been re-written (Nov 2017). - Further work will happen at the January INSET day. ACTION POINT 1

11 ACTIOn Point 2 Improve leadership and management so that the school’s expectations are more consistently used and applied 2a) Subject leaders putting assessment systems in place that support high expectations for every pupil in a wider range of subjects. - Children operating significantly above expected standard will be identified and work provided to meet their needs. - Children with low levels of prior attainment will be identified and work provided to meet their needs.

12 ACTIOn Point 2 Improve leadership and management so that the school’s expectations are more consistently used and applied 2b) Inset day (Jan 2018) to discuss assessment of foundation subjects - School considering subscription to Twinkl resources

13 ACTIOn Point 2 Improve leadership and management so that the school’s expectations are more consistently used and applied 2c) All school staff aiming for consistent use of behaviour management systems for children with no significant additional needs. - For children with additional needs, all staff will consistently use (and contribute to the review of) multi-element plans and risk assessments that are in place. Governors to liaise with stakeholders (children, parents and staff) on the outcomes of these policies. - Increased communication between key staff to meet the needs of children with additional needs.

14 ACTION point 3 External Review of Governance (ERG) is underway
Appointed a National Leader of Governance – experienced governor in similar school context Purpose: to enable the board to evaluate how effectively it carries out its 3 core functions (set the strategic direction and vision for the school, hold the school’s leadership to account and ensure financial probity)

15 ACTION point 3 Review consists of 3 phases
Phase 1 – appoint reviewer, collate date and review documentation – CURRENT PHASE OF WORK Phase 2 – Reviewer meets with governors, conducts a self review meeting, and agrees areas for improvement/develops an action plan (JANUARY 2018) Phase 3 – Implementation of action plan, progress and impact review (APRIL/MAY 2018)
