Where is the concentration of Na+ ions greater? Where is the concentration of K+ ions greater? The green structure represents a sodium and potassium pump protein. In which direction are the two ions being pumped? Against the gradient so this is an example of active transport.

2 ATP The phosphate labeled high energy bond (the kick) is broken and the phosphate attaches to the pump protein to energize it and move the ions against its concentration gradien.
