PARALLEL SENTENCE STRUCTURE (LINK)
Remember there are 2 parts to any sentence, a subject (who or what the sentence is talking about) and the predicate (what the subject is doing). Ex. Johanna is a girl who is a true friend. Parallel Sentence Structure is a way to compose (write) more interesting and efficient sentences. It is a way to give writing a rhythm and put many ideas in one sentence.
10
HOW? Combine three or more ideas of equal importance in a series.
Words Phrases Clauses

EXAMPLES Johanna is a girl who is true- true to friends, true to family and true to herself. We will swim in the ocean, lie on the beach, and sleep under the stars. Carrie loved swimming, running, and playing tennis. The little boy’s eyes were swollen shut, his face was red and puffy, and his nose was lopsided.

EXAMPLES Every day, John walked in the door, threw his backpack on the chair, and opened the refrigerator. Gabriel was lonely, intelligent, and kind. You may sit in the back, your may sit in the front, or you may sit anywhere in between. Simba and Nala went to the elephant graveyard, ran from the hyenas, and got in trouble with Mufasa.

PARALLEL SENTENCE STRUCTURE
AFTER reading “Bad Boy” in your Spring Board book about Parallel Sentence Structure. (PSS for short) Look at your quick write. Where could you use parallel sentence structure to make it more interesting? Write at least ONE example of a parallel sentence tht you could use in your paragraph. WE WILL PRACTICE THIS IN THE FUTURE ALSO.
