Civil War between Loyalists and Patriot militias Oct. 1780: Patriots crushed Loyalist militia and executed many of the officers. Loyalists switched sides

4 Battle of Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse
Continental Army being led by Nathanael Greene and Daniel Morgan Patriots defeated the British Cavalry and had Gen. Cornwallis (B) on the run Guilford Courthouse Pushing Cornwallis further north Without the aide and usefulness of the cavalry, heads north to Virginia

5 Battle of Yorktown Washington “allows” his orders to be captured by the British The fake orders claimed Washington was heading north British took the bait Waiting on them were the French led by The Marquis de La Fayette French navy blocks the Chesapeake bay and traps Cornwallis on the Peninsula of Yorktown British surrender its 8,000 troops and ends the war.
