Longitude Definition: Location east or west of the Prime Meridian, measured by imaginary lines numbered in degrees east or west Example: 65 degrees east Example: 89 degrees west Prime Meridian = 0 degrees International Date Line = 180 degrees

Latitude Definition: Location north or south of the Equator measured by imaginary lines (parallels) numbered in degrees north or south Example: 53 degrees north Example: 87 degrees south Equator = 0 degrees North/South Poles = 90 degrees

Absolute Location Absolute Location = the exact position of a place on the earth’s surface Relative Location = the position of a place on the earth’s surface in relation to another place You can use longitude and latitude to located an absolute location Longitude and latitude create a grid system
