History of instructional and communication technology
Presented by: FAIZA MUSTAFA ROLL NO: 08 SUBMITTED TO: SIR IFTIKHAR BABUR G.C E.T LAHORE
2
History of instructional technology
Audiovisual devices, individualized instruction and systems approach have helped shape the field of instructional technology. The history of each of these concepts makes the history of instructional technology
3
Audiovisual Devices Audiovisual device means any piece of equipment, with associated materials that controls through mechanical or electronic means the Presentation of auditory or visual communication of instruction.
4
Audiovisual Devices For example
(overhead projector, computer, television, etc. The audiovisual movement took its start in 1600s with the work of “Johann Comenius”
5
Audiovisual Devices In the early 1800s the field of education was greatly influenced by Johann Pestalozzi who advocated learning via the senses His instructional approach known as object teaching reached the height of popularity in 1860s in USA. In the early 1900s school museums came into existence.
6
The motion picture projector was one of the early audiovisual devices.
During the 1920s and 1930s a number of books on topic of visual instruction were written. In 1950s there was a tremendous interest in television as medium for delivering instruction. In 1964 Lumbsdaine pointed out that instructional technology could be thought of in two ways.
7
Systems Approach Is defined by Banathy (1968)
“It is a self-correcting logical process for the planning development and implementation of instruction”
8
Dick and carry (1985) have indicated
That there is no single systems approach model. There are many models for the design of instruction that could be properly characterized as systems approach models.
9
INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION
The systems approach can be used to design instruction that will be delivered to students on an individual basis , or it can be used to design instruction that will be imparted simultaneously to a group of learner
10
Historical snapshot on the Grow of instructional Technology
Many histories instructional technology start in the early 1900s, while others go back in the 1600s. 1600 the use of audiovisual took it start with the work of Johann Comenius who proposed that we learn through our senses and therefore real objects and illustrates should be used to supplement oral and written instruction
11
In 1934 Tyler wrote about behavioral objective and he is thought to be the father of behavioral objectives movement During the 1950s there was a tremendous interest in television as medium for delivering instruction
12
In 1970 Seymour paper drew on Piaget ideas to create LOGO , single computer programming language that let children control the movement of a simulated turtle by giving it simple commands In 1980s and 1990 there was rise of constructive theories which advocate that knowledge is constructed by scientists experts and not discovered from the world
