Construction Industry is 5 th Largest Sector. Highest Fatal Injury Rates (22%) and Rank 4 th for Serious Injury ACC Claims and Entitlement Claims (ACC 08). Several Government Strategies Recognise This Problem. Small Construction Businesses Dominate. Poor Health and Safety Practices. Lack of Funding and Resources.

Target Population: Small Construction Businesses (<10 Individuals). Aim to Recruit 50 Businesses. Range of Recruitment Methods. Run For One-Year End of Winter Case-Control to Assess Feasibility of the Programme.

The Intervention – Pilot Programme 2. Bottom-up Approach Facilitate Networking – Self-Determined Action, Empowerment. Providing Initial Meeting Place at Induction Day. Funding Provided For Four-Monthly Meetings – Interesting Industry Expert Speakers and Demonstrations/Exhibitions. Main Focus is on the Small Businesses Determining What They Want. Proposed incentive in form of reduced ACC Levies.
