1 GCSE Design Technology – Summer project
TASK 2 GCSE Design Technology – Summer project Product Disassembly For your non-examined assessment you ideally need to disassemble a similar existing product. Dependent on which context you picked there will be some variation here as to what you disassemble and what a ‘disassembly’ would look like. It could be actually taking apart a product, it may be just an in-depth analysis of its features. The GCSE Design Technology Non-Examined Assessment (coursework) is conducted under strict time guidelines. As such it is necessary to continue conducting your own personal research throughout the summer. On this page are three tasks which you will need to complete in order to remain on target for completing the Non-examined assessment by the spring of 2019. For September for TASK 2 you need to: Have photographs of your disassembled product. Written statement (ideally typed) describing what you did and what you learnt from it. Examples of what you could disassemble: Addressing the needs of people with a disability – disassemble an able body version of the product Encouraging a healthy lifestyle – Food packaging, fitness equipment, sports clothing, heathy lifestyle apps/websites. Supporting developing countries – Medical kits, water filters, storage containers, emergency poncho TASK 1 Client Profile TASK 3 You will need a client who you can speak to throughout your project. This person needs to be either a potential user for your product or have experience of the area you are working in. Design inspiration Examples For a project which you are designing for people with physical disabilities, your client could be: An amputee Someone who works with people who are disabled (this could be staff in school) It is important that your final product shows it has been inspired by existing work / designs. Examples. You could research: The work of a famous designer or design movement; ie Coco Chanel, Art Deco, Robert Sabuda A theme; nature, architecture, biomimicry, structures An existing product relating to your context For September for TASK 1 you need to: Decide who your client is going to be Record down details of who they are, what they do and how they relate to your project. Create a set of questions to interview your client to find out their views relating to your product. These questions should be investigating what their needs are (or the needs of the people who will use your product) If possible interview your client, or be ready to do so on the first week back. For September for Task 3 you need to: Gather a large range of images relating to your design inspiration. A detailed written statement (ideally typed) explaining what your inspiration is, why you chose it and how it will relate to your project/potential designs.
