Switchover is a global phenomenon
Netherlands – completed analogue switch-off on 11th Dec 2006 Sweden - 50% of the Swedish population have now switched over Finland - remain on track for switch-off by 31 August 2007 Germany - remain on-track to achieve a 2008 switch-off Italy - switchover slated for completion by 31 December 2008 Norway - will switch-off analogue terrestrial between end of 2008 and late 2009 / early 2010 USA - have set a switchover date of 17 February 2009 Australia – have set a target switchover timeframe of Ireland – target 2012, or before? HD Televisions EICTA Specification for “HD Ready” TV
Minimum native resolution of the display 720lines in wide aspect ratio accepts HD input via DVI or HDMI & supports content protection (HDCP) Most LCD & Plasma TVs are now 1024 x 768 or greater “Full HD” – 1920 x 1080p BUT – these sets will only display a HD picture when connected to a HD receiver (eg Sky HD set-top box) No HDTVs yet available in UK or Ireland– no FTA digital terrestrial HD services
