3 Figurative Language Figurative language is types of writing skills you can use to improve writing. This will help you on end of the year tests because it gives more details to your writing. It could make it suspenseful or scary, anything you want it to say or make the reader feel. It will also make your writing grade 10 times better!

4 Simile A phrase that uses like or as to compare someone or something to something else. Ex: You were as brave as a lion.

5 Metaphor A comparison that does not include “like” or “as”.
Ex: The fox was a tongue of fire flickering through the forest.

6 Alliteration The repetition of a consonant sound at the beginning of words. EX: Don’t dilly dally down dirty driveways!

7 Personification The act of giving human qualities to animals or inanimate objects. EX: The flowers begged for water.

8 Hyperbole Extreme exaggeration used to make a point.
Ex: I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!

9 Onomatopoeia A word whose sound suggests its meaning Ex: Splat!!!!

10 About the Author My name is McKenna Wireman. I am 11 years old. Some of my hobbies include dance, archery, and volleyball. I am an only child. In summer, I like to swim and play outside.
