This area’s sandy soils and low rainfalls combine with the know-how of producers, make Kampong Speu Palm Sugar particularly tasty, concentrated and aromatic. These specific characteristics provide notoriety to the product on the market and among consumers. FAO-EC regional seminar on rural development and agricultural and food quality linked to geographical origin in Asia, Bangkok June 2009 Current development toward the improvement of supply chains system A specific study was conducted on the market of packaged and labeled palm sugar products Action-research is conducting to find the ways for improving packaging and labeling of Kampong Speu palm sugar as GI product KSPA is playing a communication and coordination role in liking producers to new distributors in selling out their products (The pilot project for protection of Geographical Indications in Cambodia is led by Ministry of Commerce, in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. It receives financial support from AFD - French Agency for Development - and technical support from GRET and CEDAC)

8 Immediate Action Plan toward the improvement of supply chains system
FAO-EC regional seminar on rural development and agricultural and food quality linked to geographical origin in Asia, Bangkok June 2009 Immediate Action Plan toward the improvement of supply chains system Proceed for official registration of Kampong Speu Palm Sugar as a PGI product under the ministerial Prakas /decree (issued on 18/05/09) Communication and promotion campaign to raise public awareness on afford done so far: establishment of KSPA, quality improvement and control following the BoS, GI legal framework and the product protection (once registered) Identifying and contracting with an appropriate and eligible control and certification body. Establishment of producer cooperative for commercializing their products (The pilot project for protection of Geographical Indications in Cambodia is led by Ministry of Commerce, in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. It receives financial support from AFD - French Agency for Development - and technical support from GRET and CEDAC)
