Scientific Notation Scientific Notation is a way writing extremely small or large numbers and plugging them into the calculator. 6.02 x 1023 is an example of scientific notation
2
Scientific Notation Writing extremely small numbers like the diameter of a blood vessel…..
3
Scientific Notation Scientific Notation can be used for writing extremely large numbers. Like the distance circumference of our solar system…..
4
Scientific Notation Writing in Scientific Notation means understanding what is meant. Your number must be > (greater than or equal to) 1, but < (less than) 10. Your exponent (n) on the number ten tells you how many times the decimal has been moved. How many times 10 has been multiplied by 10. (+) or (-) sign lets us know the direction the decimal has moved.
5
Scientific Notation (+) exponents let us know the number is bigger than 1. 1000 = x 103 234 = 2.34 x 102 2568= 1,234,000 =
6
Scientific Notation (-) sign tells us our number is smaller than 1
.001 = 1 x 10-3 = 1 x 10-6 = =
