Bucharest , March 2016 More than 100 experts from 34 countries engaged in various modernisation initiatives across Europe. Aims: promote ESS dialogue and exchange of good practices strengthen the links between the national and European modernisation projects

Survey on deployment costs of selected Vision implementation projects by the VIG to the VIN First phase (Nov 2015 – Feb 2016): ESBRs: 26 responses ESDEN: 23 responses VALIDATION: 23 responses Input to portfolio risks management (capabilities/skills needed at ESS level) Second phase with further ESS Vision 2020 projects

Main findings All deliverables received significant interest for national deployment. The deliverables of ESBRs and ESDEN were particularly attractive. Member States generally report a low level of confidence that they have a sound understanding of the deliverables. Cost estimates provided by Member States exhibit high variability.

4. ESS visualisation workshop (DIGICOM)
Valencia, May 2016 1st event organised under the DIGICOM project 100 participants: statisticians (nearly all MS), European institutions, data scientists, researchers, graphic designers and data journalists (El Mundo)

Discussions on challenges associated with appropriate skill mix for the implementation of the ESS Vision 2020 Feb 2016 ESSC To address the skill gaps was identified as high(est) priority with regard to mitigating the risks associated with the ESS Vision portfolio Endorsement of first set of short-term actions Need for substantiated approach yielding medium-/long-term actions, involving the RDG

overall support for approach to identify skills and assess possible gaps Detailed feedback on skills required for ESS Vision 2020 and modernisation of official statistics Results comprise most important skills and capabilities needed to implement the ESS Vision 2020 and national modernisation programmes most important skill gaps current national practices to build the needed skills and capabilities support considered useful from Eurostat or other NSIs in building the skills role of VIG/VIN in assessing and building skills and capabilities

The skills listed in the "Leadership & Change Management" category are considered to be cross-cutting and therefore are necessary for the correct implementation of all ESS Vision 2020 projects
