3 Questions Please hold all questions. Please note them down, and we will answer them during the question and answer period later in this meeting. For those of you joining us via webinar, please type your questions in the window at the bottom right of your screen. You may type your questions in the window at any time during the presentation.

4 Vision Statement We envision a Commonwealth comprised of inclusive communities where all people with disabilities are valued and thrive.

5 Mission Statement The Council engages in advocacy, systems change and capacity building for people with disabilities and their families in order to: Support people with disabilities in taking control of their own lives Ensure access to goods, services and supports Build inclusive communities Pursue a cross disability agenda, and Change negative societal attitudes toward people with disabilities In so doing we will bring about benefits to individuals with disabilities other than developmental disabilities and, indeed, to all people.

7 PADDC has a State Plan Effective October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2021

8 Why Community Grants? Want to bring together people with and without disabilities in a local community alliance to influence social change and improve the lives of members of the community A next step in Council’s efforts to promote its Vision, Mission, & Statement of Values

9 Community Grants: Key Points
Action is with people with developmental disabilities, not for them. …not about specialized responses to disability but engaging people who care about working together on local issues of common interest. build up local capacity for collective action…. supports ways for people with developmental disabilities to do the work of active citizenship & makes what they have found available….

10 All PADDC Grants Must The Council believes that all its projects must address: the following: Systems Change Meaningful Participation Disparate Impact Generic Social Change

11 The Community Grants Process
A 2 step process– 1) Submit a letter of intent (1-2 pages) All Letters of Intent reviewed to determine if they best meet the purposes of the Council. All who submit letters will be notified of outcome. 2) Submit final application “Finalists” will be notified by mail and receive a final application packet for submission. Requirement to attend a webinar before submitting your full final proposal.

12 The Letter of Intent should address:
Who you are What problem you are trying to address How you are trying to address it How this relates to the Council’s values and/or past efforts?

13 Who Can Apply Any group that believes it and its idea for a project would be a good fit for a Community Grant is welcome to apply. However, there does have to be a party (for example, a 501(c)(3) organization) that can be legally responsible for the grant. There also may be tax consequences for the grant award, and the Council does not provide any tax advice

15 “Do’s” and “Don’t”s DO… Remember your audience/reviewers
Do what we say Do actively involve people with disabilities and/or family members in the planning, active leadership and work of the project. Do make sure project has real, potentially lasting impact on the community. DON’T… Don’t ask for funding for direct services, other than for short term demonstrations of new and innovative approaches. Don’t ask for funding for construction. Don’t ask for more than $10,000
