What is mediation? Mediation is a method of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) that can help disputing parties handle conflict constructively in a neutral and confidential environment. Mediation is voluntary, private, and confidential Helps to facilitate communication and understanding between disputing parties Provides a private and neutral forum for employees to voice their conflict Mediation uses a problem-solving approach rather than an adversarial approach

Who can be a mediator? A certified mediator requires mediation training, mentorship, and mediation certification. Complete an approved Certified Mediation Training Program Complete Mentorship/Observation requirements with certified mediator Certification through Supreme Court of Florida Alternative Dispute Resolution Center Annual CEU requirements

Benefits of mediation in the workplace…
Employees are in control of finding a resolution to their conflict Facilitates communication by helping employees consider each other’s perspectives Can help improve interpersonal relationships in the workplace Employees can manage conflict constructively before it escalates Can help restore communication and improve work environment

Requesting Mediation Any employee, supervisor, or department head can request mediation directly with mediator. You may contact mediator by phone at Ext or by stopping by ITRBC/HR office in PII, Ste. 232. To ensure confidentiality, please do not use to communicate with mediator regarding mediation needs Mediator does not need to know what the conflict is prior to scheduled session. Issues are discussed during mediation session only Mediator will contact parties involved to verify willingness to participate in mediation Both parties must agree to participate in mediation session Mediation session is scheduled in a neutral place, such as a conference room outside of employees’ work area, at a date/time/location that is convenient for parties involved
