1 Concentration Quiz Solubility Curves

2 Evaluation/Assessment:
Objective: Today I will be able to: Apply molarity, molality, mole fraction and dilution calculations to a quiz Construct a solubility curve for a compound Evaluation/Assessment: Informal Assessment – monitoring student interactions and questions as they complete the quiz and worksheet Formal Assessment – analyzing student responses to the quiz, worksheet and exit ticket Common Core Connection Make sense of problem and persevere in solving them Look for and make use of structure Use appropriate tools strategically

3 Lesson Sequence Evaluate: Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Elaborate: Concentration Quiz 25 minutes Elaborate: Construct a Solubility Curve Evaluate: Exit Ticket

4 Warm - Up As you come in write your name on a sticky note
Place your electronic device in Mr. Klotz’s bin Make sure your device is on silent What are the units for molarity? What are the units between molality? When is molality used instead of molarity?

5 Objectives Today I will be able to:
Apply molarity, molality, mole fraction and dilution calculations to a quiz Construct a solubility curve for a compound

6 Homework Finish constructing the solubility curve.

7 Agenda Warm – Up Concentration Quz Construct a Solubility Curve
Exit Ticket

8 Concentration Quiz When you complete your quiz, bring it up to Mr. Klotz. You may work on other homework or sit silently until everyone is finished

9 Think about: How does temperature affect solubility
Solubility Curves Think about: How does temperature affect solubility

10 Solubility of Liquids What effect does increasing the temperature have on the solubility of a liquid? In general it increases Why? Molecules move around more rapidly to dissolve quicker

11 Solubility of gases Gas solubility decreases with temperature increase
Why does this happen? Molecules move faster, the gas particles escape the solution

12 To predict the quantity of solute that can dissolve at a given temperature, we use a Solubility Curve

13 Solubility Curve Analysis
Complete the questions relating to the solubility curve. Ask Mr. Klotz for help if you have questions

14 Exit Ticket What is the molality of a saturated KCl solution At 80oC?
