1 Kentucky Alternate Assessment
Click here to download the Administration Guide (Required for completion of this training) Kentucky Alternate Assessment Transition Attainment Record (TAR) Part I Welcome to the Transition Attainment Record training. This training will walk you through the TAR Administration Guide. Some slides will reference specific pages of the Administration Guide, so please print or pull up that section before beginning this training. Once you are finished with the training you will need to complete the respective qualifying quiz. Upon successful completion of the quiz you will receive a link that will allow access to downloading the Transition Attainment Records or the TAR. If possible, it is best to complete the TAR in conjunction with the transition planning meeting or the annual review if the Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) chooses this option.

2 Transition Attainment Record (TAR)
The TAR: Is in a rating scale format, Assesses specified standards, Is scored by the educational team, and Contains team and student interviews. The Transition Attainment Record, also known as the TAR, is a rating scale format which assesses specified standards in grades 8, 10, and 11. It is based on direct observations of student performance by members of the educational team (may be referred by some as the ARC committee or Transition Team). Each TAR includes a team interview and a student interview piece. If the student is unable to answer questions on the student interview the team may provide the known answers. The interview information is used for data purposes only and not for scores. The interview information should provide valuable information for transition planning.

3 Participation Guidelines – Pg. 3
Participation is an IEP decision. There is one set of participation guidelines for both the Attainment Tasks and Transition Attainment Record. The participation guidelines are located in Alternate K-PREP Forms on the Alternate K-PREP web-page. It is critical to follow the participation guidelines for participation. There is only one set of guidelines, located in Alternate K-PREP forms, and it applies to both alternate assessments. The student must qualify for all components within the guidelines and appropriate documentation must be noted in the IEP.

4 Grade Levels Requirements – Pg. 3
Administered at grades 8, 10, and 11. Assesses items linked to grade level content standards in reading, mathematics, and science. Mirrors the EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT series. The information beginning on page three of the administration guidelines, indicates the assessed grades and the skills taught. Students in grades 8, 10, and 11 are required to complete the TAR. Test Security The TAR is considered secure testing material OK Know the concepts and teach those concepts, Review TAR and complete up until May 23, 2014 and File any notes from the TAR administration in the AAAF. Not OK Reproduce test materials, Share test items with anyone not involved in administration of the test without permission, and Use test items to prepare students for the assessment. The TAR should be considered secure testing material. It doesn’t have as many security restrictions as the Attainment Tasks but should still be considered secured testing material. When not working with the TAR store it in a secure place such as a locked desk drawer or filing cabinet. Do not leave out on in the open for non-authorized people to view. Do not share with anyone except school personnel or authorized nonschool personnel. Instruction should come from the curriculum and not directly centered on the items assessed by the TAR. When finished with the TAR file in the AAAF along with any assessment items and/or notes. Click here to continue to Part II
