7 Course Selection Process
Review Career & Course Planning Guide -- full Course Description Guide is available on-line: Discuss with teachers and parents Choose alternates as well!! Signatures on Course Selection Sheet between now and February 8th Forms collected in English class on Friday, February 9th! We will meet individually as needed to discuss your choices (February-late April)

8 SAMPLE SCHEDULE MUST CARRY 6.0 credits
English 12 (CRP, TP, CP, AP) 1.0 Modern World History (CRP, TP, CP) 0.5 Social Studies Electives – see book for options **If AP World in 11th gr, then AP SS class or two electives If Chemistry this year, then Physics (CP, H, or AP 1.5) ** If Physical Science, then no science required Math (see chart if needed) Elective credits ** PE not required if you have passed 1.5 credits of PE! ** If you only take 6.0 credits, then you will have two study halls/day ** Also consider the incentives as you plan TOTAL (MINIMUM – MAXIMUM) 8 Period Day

Choose incentives on Course Selection Card – rank them in order of preference (choices honored based on schedule) 1 incentive for being proficient on two tests 2 incentives for being proficient on three tests Come in period late OR Leave period early OR Preferred parking spot OR All-events pass OR Open lunch with study hall If Basic or Below Basic Re-tested already or in May If you re-test and score proficient, you can still choose incentives!! Do not need to re-test If Proficient or Advanced

HACC US History 107: The US since 1918 HACC US History 161: American Civil War & Reconstruction HACC Military History of WWII HACC America In Vietnam Each are semester courses worth 0.5 credit for LDHS (count for SS requirement) See prerequisites! Also available with Mr. James for Architectural CAD Each course worth 3 HACC credits with C or better HACC application and fee ($0) Pay $50 per credit ($150) Purchase book (about $50) Sign up on your course selection card to get more information!

14 Co-op & Internship Provides an opportunity for the students to gain work experience or internship experience in a field related to his/her career goals. The student is released early from school (as early as 10:52) Both options are worth 2.0 elective credits Co-op students must work at least 15 hours per week (paid experience) Internship students are required to be at their placement at least 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week (paid or unpaid) Sites must be approved by Mrs. McMinn Must apply and be accepted into program – grades, attendance, discipline records and interview considered Must provide your own transportation. If interested, sign up on the clipboard and take an application packet. See Mrs. McMinn in the library office with any questions.

15 HCEP Program Healthcare Career Exploration Program
Students interested in the medical field interact with healthcare professionals in a real-work environment at the Hershey Medical Center. ONLY FOR SENIORS! 10 students will be selected from Lower Dauphin and Hershey High School for a total of 20 students. Timeframe is 9:30-11:00 AM (Periods 3-4) *Lunch A Rotations in departments for 1st semester/Pick two top choices for 2nd semester Interview date is Monday, March 5th Sign up on the clipboard in Mrs. McMinn’s office and take an application packet. **Application is due on February 23rd

16 DAUPHIN COUNTY TECHNICAL SCHOOL www.dcts.org Half Day Option
Take core subjects at LD Spend morning/afternoon at DCTS for elective credits in shop of interest Offered for most technical areas -depends on numbers Fill out DCTS application Tour the school with your parents Transportation not provided!

18 MISCELLANEOUS SATs on 3/10 (deadline to register is 2/9)
ACTs on 4/14 (deadline to register is 3/9) You should be visiting programs that interest you this spring (now-ish) and also into the summer Your goal is to come back to school in September with an idea of what happens next and where you’d like to apply… work, tech school, colleges… etc!!
