4 Starter Write down what you can learn about Castles in England in the 11th Century from this picture! 5

5 William the Conquerer William was an invader. This meant he had taken over a foreign country. As we know, this had its own problems – lots of people wanted to rebel against him! Castles were a sign of power, and were easy for a few men to defend against many. William built castles in Exeter, Warwick, Nottingham, Lincoln, Huntingdon, Cambridge and York – all over the country!
