Session 16 -The time histories and topologies of heliospheric structures measured in-situ
Bernard V. Jackson1, David F. Webb 1CASS/UCSD, Boston College We ask two questions: 1) How well are remotely-sensed heliospheric structures depicted, and how can their time histories and topologies be confirmed? Where necessary I will add comments 2) How well are in-situ measurements observed and extrapolated to remote-observations, and what do they tell us about plasma time histories and structure topologies? Remotely Sensed Observations
Session 16 -The time histories and topologies of heliospheric structures measured in-situ Remotely Sensed Observations How do you know the speeds of these structures, and when do you expect they will reach Earth?

So, provide a model to depict solar wind time histories and shapes
Session 16 -The time histories and topologies of heliospheric structures measured in-situ MHD Modeling Efforts So, provide a model to depict solar wind time histories and shapes

Session 16 -The time histories and topologies of heliospheric structures measured in-situ
In-situ Measurements You can measure structures in situ, but how do you know their 3-D shapes, and whether these are what you observe remotely? One way is to test different models for agreement with in-situ results.

In-situ Measurements So measure these structures, determine how accurate these measurements are, and use the knowledge of the passing column in an attempt to extend beyond the spacecraft bounds.

Session 16 -The time histories and topologies of heliospheric structures measured in-situ We have two scene-setting speakers: Ward Manchester MHD modeling and comparisons with remotely-sensed and in-situ measurements Lan Jian In-situ measurements, their accuracy, and how well models depict these measurements
