Lesson 2:Choosing to live tobacco free
Many teens choose to smoke tobacco for many reasons including; wanting to lose weight, the feeling of being mature, or getting pressured. Most teens know the risks of smoking tobacco and thats why 77% of students in the U.S. don’t smoke. Teens are often influenced to try tobacco by movies, Television, and advertisements. The amount of non-smokers has risen over the past years due to being more informed and less pressured.

Lesson 2 There are several factors contributing to the trend of not smoking: The Tobacco Legislation, supported by 46 states, restricts tobacco being advertised to the youth and instead make advertisements to discourage them. Fon-smoking policies limited smoking in public and business places. Family values: parents that don't smoke often discourage their children from smoking. Positive peer pressure from non-smoker teens act as role models. Most teens understand the health risks and avoid smoking.

Lesson 3: health risks of tobacco smoke
Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS): or second hand smoke, is air contaminated by tobacco smoke. (ETS) is composed of mainstream smoke: the smoke exhaled from the lungs of a smoker. also sidestream smoke: the smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe, or cigar (ETS) from cigarettes, cigars, and pipes contains more than 4,000 chemical compounds. Over 50 of them are cancer causing carcinogens. studies show that children exposed to (ETS) are far more likely to develop asthma than their peers who weren’t. Children of smokers tend of to have higher incidence of sore throats, ear infections, and upper respiratory problems. second hand smoke can slow down lung development in children. second hand smoke causes about 3,000 deaths from lung cancer every year.

Lesson 3: reducing your risks
If a family member smokes, encourage that person to quit by telling him or her the health effects of tobacco. Try to establish smoke-free zones in the house, or make a rule that smokers go outside. Air cleaners can help remove some contaminants from the air. Open windows and let fresh air in. in restaurants and other public areas request your preference of a smoke-free environment.

Lesson 3: creating a smoke-free society
according to U.S.surgeon general, the only way to protect people rom the effects of (ETS) is to prohibiy smoking in public areas. Many states prohibit smoking in the workplace. One of the goals of Healthy people 2010 is to reduce tobacco use and the number of tobacco related deaths.
