2 Finding and applying for funding can be a rat-race
Finding and applying for funding can be a rat-race. These lab rats, though, are calm because they have submitted perfect, anxiety-free proposals with the help of CAYUSE. What is the reaction going to be? Chaos or calm retrieval? © New Yorker

3 What is Cayuse? Hosted Web based S2S NOW:
Rutgers  Grants.gov  Agency CAYUSE: Rutgers  Cayuse  (Grants.gov)  Agency Hosted – Provides the infrastructure necessary to store institutional and user data and to transmit proposals through Grants.gov Web based – Services provided over the internet, creating a proposal development and submission environment immediately accessible to the principal investigator and all users designated by the PI any time of day, any day of the week, from any computer in the world. S2S – System-to-System – a type of interface, whether institutionally developed or from a service provider, that can provide unique functionality based on specific validation rules and simplify proposal development and submission.

4 Cayuse vs. Grants.gov Adobe Forms
Automatic form completion with common information Application Validation Quick navigation to any part of any form Import and merge subaward proposals One-click proposal copy Proposal access control (security) One-step printing of entire application and attachments Institutional information – legal name and address, EIN and DUNS, ORSP GS, F&A rates, fringe benefit rates PI information – based on profile each PI enters into Cayuse What does this mean? Less entering of information for each application; No more scrolling through the application package to upload or print No more opening multiple pdf files

5 Cayuse vs. Grants.gov Adobe Forms
Grants Specialists view applications at any time – PDS and not required Stores multiple biosketches and biosketch source documents for each PI Store attachment pdf and source documents Flip proposals Agency  Agency (i.e. NIH  NSF) Mechanism  Mechanism (i.e., NIH R01  NIH R21) Minimal training – video available Have to alert GS when the proposal is in final form. With Cayuse, though, GS can monitor proposal as it progresses. One-click upload of biosketch Easy editing of pdf files Automatic conversion of proposals from one agency to another or from one application mechanism to another within the same agency.

6 Cayuse424 supports over 95% of the opportunities posted on Grants
Cayuse424 supports over 95% of the opportunities posted on Grants.gov that can be electronically submitted.

7 If Cayuse knows the rules and they are made available to Cayuse, Cayuse can build the application in its system and make it available to the users. NASA, Social Security Administration, DOJ, and NEH/NEA not available at all. Partial availability means that some application formats are too new or too complex to build.

8 Cayuse at Rutgers Cayuse424 submission is available NOW
90 users now in system 3 Rutgers submissions – no errors or warnings in Commons for R01 Department administrator response Facilitates entire application process Error/warning tracking Navigation within application Easy to use, easy to learn No Grants.gov confirmation and validation s User response Auto-fill saves data entry and reduces errors Validations save time and reduce anxiety Easy to move from section to section within application Short learning curve and user preparation requirements (entering profiles, biosketches, etc.) Can check submission icon to verify submission; if Cayuse says successful then Grants.gov has the application One to agency-determined recipient (PI, usually; for NIH also the AOR)

9 PI + Dept Admin develop the budget, consulting with the GS regarding allowable costs and F&A.
Note: Excel budget templates on website Note: GS is liaison with sponsor to clarify terms and conditions of proposal – expertise.
