Goal: Develop a sound conceptual, interdisciplinary research base for guiding practice and policy.
What we’ve done:
Developed Goodling FL Research Agenda
Became a centralized link for research in family literacy – research briefs, current research, research documents and reports and presented papers.
Developed an annotated bibliography

9. Goal: Policy
Goal: Provide family literacy leadership through through communication and collaborative action with professional organizations, state education departments, policy makers and the general public.
What we’ve done:
Support advocacy efforts on behalf of program providers
Focus on dissemination of information

Recent paper – Changing the Course of Family Literacy (2016)
Identified the critical need for family literacy programs across the U.S.
Calls for increased funding for these programs nationwide

Purpose: Provide an opportunity to enhance knowledge, skills, and credentials in the area of family literacy
On-line 12-credit post-baccalaureate credit
Offered through PSU’s World Campus
Intended for early childhood educators, elementary teachers, counselors, family literacy teachers, staff, administrators, librarians, etc.

ADTED 458: Early Literacy Development
ADTED 459: Interactive literacy and parent involvement: Supporting academic success

Focuses on the ways parents and staff support this development
Reviews research about how children acquire language, reading, writing

Identifies current research related to parent involvement and parent-child literacy activities
Examines topics including:
Perceptions of parent’s educational role
