Christian Patriotism If you go back to the time of the revolution, the founding fathers had great courage and are the basis of our patriotism.

Christian Patriotism When you look at the patriotism of the founders can you make a spiritual application?

Christian Patriotism Patrick Henry said, “I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!” What might be a spiritual application?

Christian Patriotism Are you willing to die for the things of God?
Ex. 32:9-14 – Moses was willing to die for God’s people Dan. 3:14-18 – Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were willing to die for God Acts 4 & 5 – the apostles were willing to suffer fro the name of Christ

Christian Patriotism 2 Cor. 11:22-27 – Paul suffered greatly for Christ 2 Tim. 4:6-8 – Paul was ready to, and did, die for Christ

Christian Patriotism What did the saints in the first century die for?
James 1:25 – the perfect law of liberty Acts 13:38-39 – through Jesus we can have the forgiveness of sins Rom. 6:22-23 – the liberty from Jesus is the freedom from sin; sin is to death, Jesus is to life.

Christian Patriotism John Hancock is supposed to have said, after he signed the Declaration of Independence, "The British ministry can read that name without spectacles; let them double their reward." Or, "There, I guess King George will be able to read that!“ What is a spiritual application?

Christian Patriotism What does your spiritual signature look like?
Luke 12:8-9 – Jesus talks about our confession and denial of Him. Why did Jesus bring up the angels? 2 Thess. 1:7 – Jesus will return with His mighty angels

Christian Patriotism Matt. 13:41-42 – the angels will gather all things that offend and those who practice lawlessness and cast them into the furnace of fire, cf. Matt. 25:41 Mark. 13:27 – the angels will also gather the elect of Jesus from the four corners of the earth

Christian Patriotism Is your spiritual signature one that is bold, clear and legible? Or, is it muddle, unclear, and illegible? Rev. 3:16 – the lukewarm will not have eternal life

Christian Patriotism Thomas Jefferson said, “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” What is a spiritual application?

Christian Patriotism We must understand the price of our freedom and the vigilance that that price demands. Rom. 5:6-11 – God demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son. Jesus died for sinful man in order to reconcile him to God. Rom.8:2 – the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ frees from the law of sin and death Heb. 10:29 – the blood of Christ is the blood of the covenant through which we are sanctified

Christian Patriotism 1 Peter 1:16-19 – we are redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus If the blood of Jesus is precious and redeeming then what vigilance is owed by us? 1 Peter 1:16 – we should have no vigilance in the aimless conduct of the traditions of our fathers

Christian Patriotism What is Peter saying? Anything done by the tradition of man is aimless. It is futile and worthless. cf. Jer. 10:23; Luke 16:15; Matt. 7:21-23

Christian Patriotism 2 Tim. 2:15 – Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Peter 1:10 – Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

Christian Patriotism 2 Cor. 8:7 – we are to abound in the things of Christ Phil. 3:14 – we are to press forward always, cf. Eph. 6:10-17 Phil. 4:8-9 – let these things abound in you

Christian Patriotism Which one is eternal?
The founding fathers declared their attitude and intentions for the United States of America. Do you have this type of attitude and are you declaring your intentions for the kingdom of God? Which one is eternal?

Christian Patriotism Patrick Henry was willing to give his life for liberty. Jesus gave His life for liberty will you give yours for that liberty? Are you willing to die for Christ?

Christian Patriotism God has vigilantly done His part.
Thomas Jefferson said that liberty requires vigilance. God has vigilantly done His part. Do you have the vigilance that He asks of you to inherit eternal life?

Christian Patriotism John Hancock signed the Declaration of Independence in a very large, clear and declarative way. Are you living your life in Christ in a similar, large, clear and declarative way?
