1
Energy and Symbiosis
2
Types of nonrenewable energy
From Fossils Coal Oil Natural gas Other- Nuclear- due to using uranium- but it is clean (the smoke seen from the towers is steam)- it does cause nuclear waste that can cause mutations.
3
Renewable energy and its Pros(good things) and Cons (bad things about it)
Solar- pros - uses sun for energy- photovoltaic cells store the power in them so it works at night- cons- expensive, wont work in areas near the poles where it is dark 6 months of the year. Hydroelectric-pro- from water- cheap and easy to install dam where water turns a generator. Cons- can damage habitats behind the dam and cause flooding Geothermal- from heat within the earth- pro- always available in volcanic regions (cheap). Cons- not found everywhere.
4
Cont….... Wind- from windmills – cheap and easy to install. Cons- not available everywhere (cities) and can harm wildlife (birds)
5
Food Webs and Chains and Symbiosis
Food Webs are interconnected Food Chains- Producers (plants) have most energy, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers, decomposers. There are two types- aquatic (water) and terrestrial (land) Symbiosis- Mutalism- both benefit, Commensalism- one benefits and the others is not harmed, Parasitism- one benefits and the other is harmed or killed, predator- prey- one hunts the other.
