Woman of dignity honor and respect First lady of civil rights

2 Coretta Scott King Born on April 27,1927 in Perry County, Alabama to the late Obie and Bernice Scott who were 1 of few African American farm owners of that time.

3 Coretta Scott King Attended Lincoln high school an all black school with integrated staff. After graduating attended Antioch college in Ohio with a music scholarship where she got a B.A in music and elementary education in 1949

4 Coretta Scott King With the help from a grant she enrolled in the New England conservatory of music in 1951 where she earned her bachelors degree in music.

5 Coretta Scott King While attending school in Boston she met the late Martin Luther King who on June 18, 1953 in Marion ,Alabama. Martin Luther King became her lovely wife.

6 Coretta Scott King Two years later there first child Yolanda is born on November 17,1955. Two months later on January 30th 1956 a bomb is thrown at their Montgomery house where Coretta and Yolanda were but neither were injured

7 Coretta Scott King A year later on October 23,1957 there second son Martin 3rd is born

8 Coretta Scott King Jan. 24, King family moves from Montgomery to Atlanta, where King becomes co-pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church with his father.

9 Coretta Scott King Jan. 30, Dexter is born and in the next 2 years March 28, Bernice is born

10 Coretta Scott King on Aug. 28, At the March on Washington,her husband King delivers his famous "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

11 Coretta Scott King 5 years later April 4th 1968 her great husband is assassinated in Memphis Tennessee because of his peaceful movements and his big role in the Civil rights Movement which now makes her a widow

12 Coretta Scott King June 26, the same year Coretta founds the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center in Atlanta so that she and others could honor the struggle he went through for a change

13 Coretta Scott King Nov. 3, President Reagan signs a bill establishing the third Monday of January as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday and in Jan. 20, 1986 The First national celebration of the King holiday is observed

14 Coretta Scott King A woman who still fought after her husband died. A woman who handled her business and defeated being a widow and keep her husbands dream alive while raising 4 kids in front of the world

15 Coretta Scott King Aug. 16, 2005 she Suffered a stroke and heart attack and her health began to decrease at that time and she went to a clinic in Mexico where the doctors said there was nothing left to do

16 Coretta Scott King January 31st 2006 this precious lady died from complications and was flown back with daughter and caregiver Bernice to Atlanta where Watkins funeral home held her body

17 Coretta Scott King Making history after her death she became the first woman and African American to lay in state at the Georgia Capitol Rotunda

18 Coretta Scott King With a Beautiful Home going service she was buried on February 7th 2006 at the New Birth Baptist Church with people from everywhere and all backgrounds came to pay their respect and to honor Coretta and her Daughter Bernice brought down the house with her powerful sermon sounding just like her father
