REPRESENTING DATA with GRAPHS
REFER TO YOUR REPRESENTING DATA HANDOUT AND GRAPHING WORKSHEET ON SPEED AND STOPPING DISTANCE TO STUDY FOR YOUR MIDTERM
2
GRAPH A graph is a visual display of data and can help to reveal a pattern in data, if one exists. There are different types of graphs, including circle graphs, bar graphs, and line graphs
3
Circle Graphs Sometimes called a pie chart
The whole circle represents 100% Which means data is recorded in percentages All “pieces” must add up to 100% Create a circle graph on your handout dividing your free time up into your hobbies or afterschool activities. Make sure the total is 100% Add a title Label each percentage Label each “pie piece”
4
Bar Graph Often used to show how a quantity varies with different factors Create a bar graph using your quarter 1, quarter 2, and quarter 3 grade so far. You should have 3 bars and give your graph a title Label your Y axis and X axis appropriately Make a 4th bar for the grade you would like to earn for 4th quarter
5
Line graphs The points on the line graph represent the intersection of data for two variables Sometimes the data is scattered and a line cannot be drawn through all points Use a best fit line Create a line graph of height and shoe size for the class

Height Shoe Size
