Who am I? – Why am I here? Instructor – Administrative Management Technology (Admin Support-on-Steriods) Detroit Lakes is a small campus with many commuting students I am trying to minimize the quantity of required F2F class meetings without being classified as a “Distance” course.

Host local high school students (Prom Attendees) Sell booth space to local vendors Goals! Authentic experience for students to administer an event on-campus Expose area high school students to our campus Enrollment

Why a Wiki? A wiki allows multiple disparate users to collaborate on a project using a web site 24x7 Allows class to meet outside of physical time/location Popular for commuting students No software to download Internet-based (Web 2.0) Free for educators (PBwiki) Easy WYSIWIG editing

Demo Notes Our Wiki was created with PBwiki 1.0 This version allowed access to the wiki via a password. SPARTANS08 The 2.0 version changes the access procedure to require an invite to an address. The navigation on our wiki is aided by the use of the Sidebar navigation tool. The Recent Activity & Page Information allowed to track student participation

Create Your Wiki Create Your Wiki Name Enter Your e-mail Address
Specify “Education” Go to your to Continue Click the Link to your new wiki © Marcus Lacher

Create Your Wiki Select a Password (letters & numbers- no spaces or punctuation) Confirm your Password Make wiki Private Agree to Terms Accept Point & Click Editor Click “Next” © Marcus Lacher

Try Out the Free Version

Edit Text Delete current text Enter your text Make formatting changes:
Font color, style, centering, etc. Save your changes SAVE © Marcus Lacher

Add an Image Save your image (you cannot use copy) Select Insert Image
Browse for your image Upload Click OK © Marcus Lacher

Add New Page Type your new page name Click the Link icon
Select Wiki Page Click on the Tiddler for your new page Select Create New Page © Marcus Lacher

Group Project Page For a group project, you can select to use the PBWiki template for the project or a page of the project. Here, students can combine information, share information or resources, and leave messages for each other. © Marcus Lacher

Insert Navigation This is the Sidebar
What gets placed in the Sidebar will appear on ALL pages This is the perfect spot for links Edit the Sidebar the same way as any other page by clicking Edit. © Marcus Lacher

Delete Sidebar? To delete any page of the three-tab
Sidebar, click the + button next to The page name. © Marcus Lacher

Change the Skin Select Settings (top right of page)
Select Skins (you might need to scroll down) Choose your Skin: Snakeskin = Default Green Bamboo = Bamboo (very busy) Minimalist = Gray/White Hyperreal = Orange/White Qua = Blue Preview appears at the bottom when you save. Return to the Home (FrontPage) © Marcus Lacher
