Task You have just been employed by a successful app developing company ‘Awesome Apps’ to design and upload to the App Store a new amazing app. Your employer has asked you to develop an app of your choice; however, the app must be an app that provides users with a service (e.g., Uber, Ebay, Groupon etc…).

Process App Name Design an eye-catching icon
Create your apps storyboard or user-interface (UI) Design an amazing, eye-catching icon Write an easy to read and interesting description Cost - How much will the company make and how much will Apple make? Present to the CEO and Executives

App Title / Name Your app name is important. Any ‘metadata’ or app information must be relevant to the apps content. It’s also a good idea to keep your app name simple and short, that way users can see the entire app name on their screen - rather than a shortened version e.g, ‘Angry Birds Spe….’. You may wish to come back to this step as most developers name their app after it’s developed. Research the names of the top 100 apps in the App Store.

Icon Your app needs to stand out from all the other apps in the App Store! Keep your design simple, you don’t need to include the app name. The app icon should be 20cm x 20cm. Apple have some guideline to follow.

Storyboard There are heaps of free tools to help express your app idea and help make it come to life. Two really good examples are: Download from SneekPeekIt (iPad / iPhone) Draw.io Speckyboy Keep your app simple and user-friendly, Apple don’t like unfinished looking apps or apps that are difficult to navigate. Check Apple’s Design Tips

Cost Are you going to charge a once-off charge for your app, or make it free and place advertisements within the app? You might even like to think about In-App purchases. Is your app affordable? Can schools buy your app in bulk and receive a 50% discount if they buy 19 or more? Don’t forget that Apple take 30% from every app you sell. Have a look at Apple’s purchasing guidelines

Present It’s time to present your final app product to the CEO and Executives. You should include the following in your presentation. The purpose of your app. How will your app help society or users with day to day life? How will the company make profit from your app? Would you do anything differently next time?
