1 Basic Practice: How to use the search the internet

2 Warm-up What did we talk about last time? Why did we discuss this?
How can this help you? Who does it benefit? Let us move into this weeks lesson as we are going to explore how to find these topics on the internet. This week we will be exploring Printed Art Styles In our last class session, we discussed topics that we might need to search for on the internet. For example, medical issues, housing, bills, work and/or career, recipes, Facebook?

3 Preparing for a search For this lesson, we are going to be exploring the internet using the search engine Google. The objective is to provide you with some experience that will help you gain confidence when searching the web for the topics that we identified last class. Except, we are going to use different terms to search the internet today. We are going to be exploring the world of ART.

4 Potential Search Engines that can be used
Before we begin searching, let’s look at some search engines that are used. Some of the search engines that you can use, to just name a few, are….. What do you use? Can you tell us why you like it? Was it overwhelming and confusing? For this assignment, we will be using Google.

5 Welcome to the Chicago Art Museum
You are the Museum Detective. A piece of Art has been taken and you need to identify the style. The thief has left a clue. Your job is to follow the guidelines listed on the worksheet to find out which Art style was taken. You are a detective for the Chicago Art Museum and you have been called in to help identify the type of art that was taken.. The Director has narrowed it down to two types, Abstract, Realism, and Expressionism. Your job is to follow the worksheet and based on your findings, you will be able to find the correct type of Art that was taken.

6 The Clue This piece of art can be considered a “selfie” or a portrait. This type of art is created in real- time.

7 Let’s Practice 1. Pull out your assignment sheets and follow the directions. 2. In your browser, type Google. 3. Now, in the search bar- type the Art Style Pop Art 4. How many results did you find? 5. Are there ads at the top of your search results? 6. Select the site- Pop Art Term | Tate. 7. Based on the description, does this meet the art style clue that the thief left? Have the class pull out their assignment sheet and follow the instructions. How many results? 106,000,000 Are there ads at the top of your search results? NO Based on your research, does this style answer the clue? NO

8 Recap for the Class Was this activity helpful with understanding the basics of internet search? What questions do you have? Next class, you are to provide 3 topics that are you interested in and using Google, I want you to bring in a link to a website for each of the 3 topics.
