Poetry is a form of literature that relies on length of line, sound, rhythm, and compression of statement.

Traditional Poetry- Arranged in lines with a regular rhythm and often a definite rhyme scheme

Nontraditional Poetry-
No regular rhythm and rhyme, though usually set up in lines

Poetic Form- The structure of a poem;
stanzas and pattern of rhyme and rhythm

Stanza- Group of lines

Sound Devices- Rhyme-Words that end with the same sound
Rhythm-The beat or meter Alliteration-Matching initial (first) sounds Onomatopoeia-Use of words that imitate sound
