Opening Problem Take out your math packet. Solve in your notebook:
I am going to set the timer for 5 minutes. Complete the handout. When timer goes off, I will set it again for 1 minute for students to talk with their neighbors. I will randomly call on 3 students to share how they saw the pattern and if they had an equation for it. Then I ask the class if anyone used a different strategy than what the 3 students just shared.

Rational Numbers on the Number Line
OUTCOME: * Students will locate positive and negative integers on a horizontal and vertical number line * Students will represent real world situations with integers * Students will describe the meaning of 0 in a given real world situation In order to complete their quiz with at least 80% accuracy. 6.NS.C.5, 6.NS.C.6a, 6.NS.C.6c

Language Objective Rational Numbers on the Number Line
By the end of the lesson/quiz, I will be able to use the language domains of reading and writing to communicate the math language of integers and rational numbers on a number line to complete the lesson quiz. I will determine the appropriate scale given a set of numbers in real-world situations to plot rational numbers and their opposites; determine the integer represented in a situation; and understand that each nonzero integer has an opposite, and that the opposite of the opposite is the original number in order to complete their quiz. Academic math language Vocabulary: rational number, integer, opposites, zero, none-zero, opposite of the opposite integer
