Considered one of America's greatest fiction writers Considered one of the strongest apologists for Roman Catholicism in the twentieth century. Born of the marriage of two of Georgia's oldest Catholic families, O'Connor was a devout believer whose small but impressive body of fiction presents the soul's struggle with what she called the "stinking mad shadow of Jesus." 4 Flannery O’Connor Born March 25, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia She went to college at the University of Iowa Her father died of systemic lupus when she was a teenager Her works were infused with her experiences of growing up as a Catholic in the South First short story was published in 1946, “The Geranium” Graduated from college in 1947 Wrote novels, but best known for her short story collection, most notably “A Good Man Is Hard To Find.”

What is textual evidence? Pulling actual evidence from the text to help prove your point or reason. Writing a Literary Analysis The paper is based on a clear thesis, and essay convincingly proves thesis. Organization is clear. The following five paragraphs are evident: introduction, 3 body paragraphs (at least!), and conclusion. Approximately 6 parenthetical citations (about 2 per body paragraph) are included correctly: Example: Mama is described as, “a large big-boned woman with rough, man-working hands” (57). Voice is strong, sentence structure is varied and smooth, and word choice is precise and appropriate for audience. Conventions are error-free.
