Each group (4 students/group) will be assigned a Social, Political or Economic Problem to solve.

Each group will create the following: 1. Essay (600 words): Each group will write an essay on how to solve the problem(s). See the list of problems on: Each student must participate in writing the essay by writing 150 words. It will be part of the essay (introduction, body, conclusion). The essay should have solutions with explanations.

2. Concept Web: One per group. It should illustrate the group’s plans Share-Out: Each group will be selected randomly. Students in the group are expected to explain their contributions/plans. If the student cannot explain their portion of the group work, it will result in a low grade.

4 Graphic Organizer Procedure (Concept Web) Write the problem in the middle circle. Use the small circles to fill out the names of each person in the groups. Each person will create a sub-circle to put their solutions.

6 What is graded? 1. Essay (600 words/group) Each group member must have 150 word to show they did the work (full name & number of words used). 2. Concept Web - Students visually explain their plan with the graphic organizer. 3. Participation (“The Process”) – Each student must be involved. The Instructor will monitor the students. Student that are not working will not get credit. 4. Share-Out Each group will be selected randomly. Each student must be prepared and knowledgeable of the purpose of their compacts and which States are involved in the compact.

7 Groups 1, 3, & 5 Social Issues - Racial differences (Police brutality) - Obesity /health problems - Gangs, drug and alcohol problems - Education/high drop-out rate Groups 2, 4, & 6 Political Issues - Environment and Global Warming - Terrorism/Foreign Policy - Illegal Immigration - Gun Control Groups 7,8,9 Economic Issues - The Economy and Jobs - Health Care (Universal Health Care) - Employment Equality Between Men and Women - Poverty, unemployment, homeless - Equality for minorities (equal employment)
