Article II of the Constitution Includes: President, Vice President, and Federal Agencies

4 What is the executive branch and what does it do?
That’s why we are called the “Executive” branch. Congress makes laws and we enforce or execute them.

5 Requirements Natural born citizen 35 years of age or older
A resident within the United States for 14 years. In the Constitution, there are no requirements listed for the Vice President. However, the 12th amendment states that the VP must follow the same qualifications of President.

6 Term of Office Serve 4 year terms
At first there was no limits on terms. In 1940, FDR ran for a 4th term. The 22nd Amendment was passed in 1951 in fear that a president might gain too much power. Established 2 term limit.

10 Presidential Succession
Constitution did not set up a line of succession. 1947, Congress passed the Presidential Succession Act This gave a list of who was expected to succeed. Vice-President Speaker of the House President Pro tempore Secretary of State

25th Amendment was ratified in 1967. VP becomes president if the president dies or resigns, then picks their new VP. Senate must approve. Gerald Ford (Succeeded Nixon) Harry Truman (Succeeded FDR) Lyndon Johnson (Succeeded JFK)

Veto means to reject a bill of Congress. This is the executive’s major check over the legislative branch.
