Isaiah 61:1-2

2 Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future

4 Isaiah 61:1-2 1The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God to comfort all who mourn,

5 Isaiah’s Context (First 39 Chapters)
The Israelites divided in 2 Kingdoms; Israel and Judah. Both nations are prosperous but sinful (idolatry, immorality etc.) Israel fails to repent and is conquered by Assyria Judah depends on God and is delivered from Assyria (Next 27 Chapters) Judah is anxious because of the future menace Babylon

6 Luke 4:14-22a 14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. 16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

7 Luke 4:14-22a 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips…

9 Luke 3:21-22a 21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

19 Romans 7:21-25 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

26 Isaiah 61:3 To comfort all who mourn… ‘and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.’

Live in God’s righteousness and not in the bondage of sin

30 Righteousness (Chinese)
義=羊+我 (LAMB + ME)

31 Wisdom (Japanese) 知恵=知+恵 (KNOW + GRACE)

32 In other words… 義=羊+我 知恵=知+恵
I am made righteous because of the lamb of God that covers me 知恵=知+恵 True wisdom would be to know that grace

33 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

34 Isaiah 61:3 …and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.’
