What Athletes Need To Know
All athletes must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse in order to participate in Division I or II athletics (Usually at the end of junior year) In order to participate fully, an athlete must pass the NCAA Clearinghouse Passing is dependent upon your core GPA and SAT/ACT score

Core GPA Core GPA is not your overall GPA. Core GPA includes only:

Core Courses at BHS English Freshman English, Sophomore English, Junior English, Senior English Math Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus, Statistics Science Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Forensic Science Social Studies United States History, World History, Civics, Youth and Law, Sociology, Psychology World Language Spanish 1-4, French 1-4 Keep These Classes In Mind When Choosing Your Classes For Next Year

Meeting The Sliding Scale Division 1
Seniors: Must have at least a 2.0 core GPA A 2.0 core GPA needs a 1010 SAT score A 3.5 core GPA needs a 400 SAT Score Juniors/Sophomores/Freshmen: Must have at least a 2.3 core GPA in order to participate fully (2.0 core GPA qualifies for an athletic redshirt = no competing) A 2.0 core GPA needs a 1020 SAT score (Athletic Redshirt) A 2.3 core GPA needs a 900 SAT score (Eligible to compete)

Meeting The Sliding Scale Division 2
Seniors/Juniors/Sophomores: No Sliding Scale Must have a 2.0 core GPA Must score an 820 on the SAT Freshmen: New Sliding Scale Must have a 2.2 core GPA and an 840 SAT to be a full qualifier Partial qualifier can have a 2.0 core GPA and an 820 SAT A 3.0 core GPA only needs a 400 SAT score

Calculating Your Core GPA
Each grade equals a number with the Clearinghouse: A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 D = 1 F = 0

New NCAA Eligibility Rules
Class of 2016 and After: Ten core courses completed before the start of the seventh semester are locked in Seven of these courses must be in English, Math or Science These classes are not eligible to be retaken for a better grade No magic senior schedule to fix your core GPA

Will need a 900 SAT score to pass

Athletic Scholarships
All possible Division 1 and Division II athletes will need to pass the NCAA Clearinghouse An account will need to be made at Your test scores will need to be submitted by College Board Your transcript will need to be submitted by the guidance department A decision will then be made whether or not you have met the criteria necessary to be eligible for a scholarship

Other Options? There are no other options if you want to play Division I or Division II athletics Division III Athletics – No athletic scholarships Offer academic aid Need to have good grades to qualify Junior College Compete for 1 or 2 years and then transfer to a Division I or II school (No SAT scores needed) Prep School Work on getting core GPA up/Continue taking the SAT

Things to Consider Most athletes don’t realize their potential until late in their high school career By then it could be too late to fix your chances of passing the Clearinghouse Take your education serious from the start and you won’t have to worry There are millions of athletes out there. Coaches don’t have time to waste. You can be replaced. Figure out your core GPA and be proactive….don’t wait until it is too late
