2. Our Innovation Project
What is it?
Communication passports implemented into the lives of the majority of the children on our caseload. Questionnaires were sent to parents and nurses to test the effectiveness of this tool.
Why did you choose it?
Crucial aid for nurses and children
Potential for nationwide implementation.
Benefits and barriers of the communication passport = Service improvement.
What’s its purpose?
The passport supports professionals in understanding child specific information in order to ensure effective communication.

3. Findings
What impact do you think the project has had on the children and young people involved?
Definitely positive – we have created a standardised tool which benefits children with communitive difficulties enabling nurses to have a basic understanding of how a child communicates before they have met them.
What are you most proud of?
Our results of current support the use of our communication passport!
How did you as a Children’s Nurse benefit from leading the project?
I have understood the usefulness of the communication passport whilst leading this project, this has pushed me to ensure that every child on our caseload has a communication passport which is completed to a high standard .

4. Next steps… What are your plans/hopes for the project for the future?
Audit our data which we have collected recently, and then process all of our findings to produce our final report.
How would you like to develop it further?
We would like the communication passport to be implemented nationwide, as the only communication passport which is based upon sound evidence.
