2 Rationale for establishing school garden
To fulfill need for a creative and energizing outlet for students who have fallen out of touch with the outdoor world. Many Oaklyn Public School teachers have expressed an interest in integrating the garden into the day-to-day learning of their students. Provides an opportunity for hands-on learning, allowing students expand their creativity as well as apply scientific and mathematical concepts.

3 Our mission The Oaklyn PTA School Garden will exist to provide various learning opportunities for the students of the Oaklyn Public School. The school garden will contribute to the beautification of the school grounds, provide students with a sense of ownership, and bring the school community together through the maintenance and expansion of the garden.

4 Proposed garden location
Proposed location is area along fence where tall pines were formerly located. -Parents and caretakers picking up children from school will enjoy seeing it. -In close proximity to classrooms of younger students and side entrance to school. -Garden will be visible from Kendall Blvd. -Question of water source– need a new spigot?

5 Three year vision Year one: Determine a site for the garden
Do soil testing Outline the types of plant material that will be brought in to the garden Creation of a Monarch Butterfly Waystation Procure funding from grants and donations from various sources

6 Three year vision Year Two
Refinement of the Monarch Butterfly Waystation Adding requested items and developing annual beds to complement classroom activities Continue to pursue funding from outside sources, Establish contacts between other school gardens, farms, and gardening organizations

7 Three year vision Year Three
See garden reach full maturity in terms of size, scope, and integration into the classroom Depending on the successfulness of the garden, we may look into using the garden as a springboard for “greening” the school
