Constantly improving Enables use of a multitude of tools to enhance student learning FREE, OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE!

3 Most commercial CMS systems are tool-centered, whereas, Moodle is learning-centered.

4 C OURSE P AGE S ET U P Lakeview Teachers: Connie has set up most courses, you probably already have a login Our server address is: http://moodle.lakeviewacademy.com If you need to create your own account: 1. Click the Create new account button. 2. Fill in the new account form by creating a username and password for yourself 3. Enter a valid email address. 4. Click Create my new account. 5. Within a few minutes, you should receive an email.

5 M OODLE R ESOURCE M ODULE Content: Uploading and Sharing Materials Use Moodle to easily publish content; you simply use a web form that stores your syllabus on the server. A Good Way to Begin… Start by uploading your syllabus, lecture notes, reading assignments, and articles for students to access whenever they want.

Insert a label, creates a label directly on your course page. 2.Compose a text page and Compose a web page, can be used to develop content directly in Moodle. 3.Link to a file or web site and Display a directory, are used to manage content developed in other programs, such as Word or PowerPoint or other web sites and take advantage of the rich library of information available on the Web. 4. Add an IMS Content Package enables you to add prepackaged content from sites around the Web. Begin by creating a simple label for your course page.

9 Forums and Chats: Online forums and chats provide: a means of communication outside of classroom meetings more time for students to generate their responses and can lead to more thoughtful discussions. a way to quickly and easily communicate with remote students. for project discussions between groups of students for last-minute questions the day before an exam.

16 The idea itself is simple: Open source simply means that users have access to the source code of the software. You can see how the software works, tinker with it, share it with others, or use parts of it in your own product.

17 Composing a Text Page: A text page is a simple plain-text page with little formatting. You can add paragraphs and whitespace, but thats about it. Text pages are very easy to create: 1. Click the Turn editing on button. 2. From the Add a resource menu select Compose a text page. 3. Enter a name for the text page. The name you give the page will be displayed in the content section on your course page. Students will access your page by clicking on the name. Be sure to give the page a descriptive name so students will know what they are accessing. 4. Write a summary of the page in the Summary field. 5. Add your text in the Full Text field. 6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save changes. |
