3 Victim Services We are a universal victim support service with specialist trained volunteers and staff. We run a Specialist Young Witness Service in both Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Our service is free and confidential

4 Who do we accept referrals from?
Please remember that you do not have to report a crime to refer to us. We accept referrals from: Victims directly Third parties Police

5 What do victims want? Victim support commissioned some research “Think Britain” to find out: 89% of victims were satisfied with VS 40% of crimes go unreported 61% of victims said that the crime had a notable impact on their lives 87% Victims want to talk and to be heard

Incidents are motivated by bias / prejudice against a person's identity Victims cannot change who they are Some victims report being ‘used’ to certain types of incidents Under reporting Some victims do not feel confident to seek support from their family/friends or community

Victim community based support services to any victim of crime offer: Face to Face and telephone support CICa support Practical measures Advocacy Referrals, signposting and information provision National Support line National Homicide Service Children and Young People victims & witnesses Research and Victim’s Voice

That we support or direct our service focussed on their needs and ensure the appropriate outcome We link victims to appropriate services if it not our specialism That victims are informed That we deliver what we promise

Victim Services: Caseworker services for complex cases Hate Crime caseworker (part o local collaboration) Support the Complex Persons Panel in the City Witness services: Queens Award winning Young Witness Service (home visiting and court preparation work)

14 National Victim Support Impact Report 2014/2015
Helped 155,305 people to cope and recover from crime 70,260 face to face meetings 297,521 telephone support calls 94% of victims were satisfied with the support we gave them 85% felt we reduced the impact of the crime on their health and wellbeing
