One of the pillars of the State’s rural economy is animal husbandry
One of the pillars of the State’s rural economy is animal husbandry. It contributes nearly % of its agricultural SDP. The Gross value of output at current price is Rs. 31,347 Crore. About 86.5% animals are in the hand of marginal, small and semi-medium farmers with operational holdings less than 4 hectare and they depend on agricultural residues for feeding of animal. About 83 million Livestock & Poultry population which is 5th in India. Total bovine population of the state is about million. Out of which 75 % is non-descript indigenous cattle having average daily milk production Lt. The state ranked 2nd in meat production , 4th in egg and 12th in milk production. But even so, there is a demand-supply gap.

APPLICABLE FOR THE STATE i,e, 180 Gm/HEAD/DAY .
MILK PRODUCTION 20 % increase in Milk production during the period of 7 years Present production of milk only 83 % of the internal requirement of the State. **INTERNAL REQUIREMENT IS BASED ON THE NORMS FELT APPLICABLE FOR THE STATE i,e, 180 Gm/HEAD/DAY .

EGG PRODUCTION 20 % increase in Egg production in last 7 years
Backyard poultry sector contributes 55% and commercial sector contributes around 45%. Present production of Egg only 77% of the internal requirement of the State. 20 % increase in Egg production in last 7 years PROJECTED TARGET **INTERNAL REQUIREMENT IS BASED ON THE NORMS FELT APPLICABLE FOR THE STATE i,e, 100 Nos./CAPITA .

MEAT PRODUCTION Poultry meat is the highest contributor of total meat production, where the annual growth rate is 18%. State is self sufficient in Chicken meat . Present production of Meat is only 73 % of the internal requirement of the State. PROJECTED TARGET **INTERNAL REQUIREMENT IS BASED ON THE NORMS FELT APPLICABLE FOR THE STATE i,e, 30 GM/HEAD/DAY .

SCHEMES OF POULTRY SECTOR

POULTRY SECTOR State requires about 270 lakh eggs per day, while produces about lakh eggs per day and about lakh eggs on an average per day have to be brought from other States. A Special Scheme formulated to mitigate the gap between demand & supply of eggs in the State through – 1. Backyard Poultry (Chicken/ Duck) Farming through distribution of Chick/duckling to the individual beneficiaries. Beneficiary Selection : Individual Application or selected by Gram Panchayat/ Panchayat Samity. BDO/ Savapati will send list to the District Magistrate. DDARD & PO of the district will arrange for distribution of chicks/ ducklings 4 (four) weeks old 10 (ten) numbers of chicks/ ducklings will be supplied During : Distributed – lakh 2

Poultry/Duck Farming by SHG (Convergence with MGNREGS) : Unit Size: 100 to 250 should have land of their own construction of sheds under MGNREGA 4 (four) weeks old chicks/ ducklings will be supplied free of cost. During : among 707 nos. SHGs 1.61 Lakh Ducklings/ Chicks distributed. Target : 5600 SHGs (Total State) Sl. 3. Commercial Hybrid Layer (Chicken) / Duck farm by Private Entrepreneurs : Unit Size: Layer Chicken - 20,000 to 1,00,000; Duck – 5,000 land required : 2 to 3 acres / 20,000 capacity approx. unit cost : Rs – lakh / 20,000 capacity

POULTRY SECTOR Capital Grant / Subsidy :
West Bengal Incentive Scheme, 2017 for Commercial Layer Poultry Farm and Poultry Breeder Farm (WBIS 2017 for CLP & PBFs) for Production of Additional 80 lakhs to 1 Crore Eggs per day. Capital Grant / Subsidy : @ Rs. 8,00,000 per unit of Commercial layer / Poultry breeder birds subject to maximum of Rs. 80,00,000.00 Interest subsidy on term loan : Micro and Small farm: 40 % of total interest paid on term loan for 5 years subject to maximum loan amount of 75% of the project cost. Medium farm: 25% of total interest paid on term loan for 5 years subject to maximum loan amount of 75% of the approved project cost. Power Subsidy Micro and Small farm : Rs per Khw for 5 subject to maximum Rs. 5 lakh per year. Medium farm : Re. 1 per Khw for 5 years subject to max. Rs. 10 lakh per year.

POULTRY SECTOR Waiver of Electricity Duty
75% for 5 years subject to maximum Rs. 2 lakh per year. Subsidy on Stamp Duty and Registration Fee: 50% reimbursement of stamp duty and registration fee for purchasing land for setting up of the approved project. 48 Poultry Entrepreneurs establishing their projects of Rs crore project cost for additional 18 lakh egg per day.

GOATERY SCHEME – Buy Back Policy
Implemented by : West Bengal Livestock Dev. Corporation Ltd. (WBLDC) Started in Hooghly District with 30 beneficiaries WBLDC will provide : 11 Goats (10 Female + 1 Male) Insurance and tagging Feed for four months, De-wormer, Mineral & Vitamin mixture, Vaccination Orientation training of beneficiaries WBLDC will buy back all male goats at a price fixed between beneficiary and WBLDC for the first time. From second time, all male goats will be procured at market price THIS SCHEME MAY BE PROPAGATED IN OTHER DISTRICTS WITH SHG MEMBERS

SELF EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES
About 6000 private Artificial Insemination Workers are working under this Department to provide Artificial Insemination service to Cattle & Buffalo at Farmers’ doorstep About 5700 members of women SHGs are working as PRANIMITRA to provide Vaccination & De-wormer Incentive to Pranimitra & A.I. Workers: To motivate and augment income generation of the self employed persons, a incentive scheme is introduced @ Rs per month with an increment of monthly 10% after each 3 (Three) years.

TRAINING & SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Trained about lakh farmers for better animal husbandry practices in last seven years Started one year Certificate Course of ‘Livestock Development Assistant (PRANIRAKSHAK)’ with a yearly target to train 420 youths. Started a ‘Six months Certificate Course on Artificial Insemination (PRANI SEBEE)’ under the ambit of the ‘Utkarsh Bangla’ in 66 Vocational Training Centres with a yearly target 4000 Started Two years Veterinary Pharmacy course having yearly training capacity of 30.
